“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women are merely players” is a phrase you may recognise from William Shakespeare’s poem in the pastoral comedy ‘As You Like It’. As it turns out, Oscar-nominated Italian director Luca Guadagnino had the same inspiration behind the expression for Ermenegildo Zegna’s ‘Defining Moments’ SS19 campaign.
The first half of the phrase forms the title of the campaign’s final chapter, unveiled in a series of three character-based films shot in Milan. Seven ages of man aside, Guadagnino’s series explores the rituals and choices that define an individual, highlighting the progressive attitude and versatility of modern menswear while doing so.

But the director of I Am Love, Call Me By Your Name, and Suspiria didn’t just cast any Tom, Dick and Harry for the chapter, of course. Here’s a look at the international stars of the series and their respective ‘defining moments’.
Boyd Holbrook, star of Netflix’s Narcos, attributes his career and life to having the freedom to make an impression – embodied in his choice of Zegna’s versatile casualwear.
André Holland, star of Oscar-winning film Moonlight, talks about a morning ritual with his father which taught him how to shine through life’s challenges. He lives by it to this day by setting the stage with his su misura, sartorial wardrobe.
Willam Chan, actor, singer and global face of Ermenegildo Zegna XXX, combines the best of streetwear and refined tailoring in embrace of the XXX movement – a mirror of his personal lifestyle.
