The Maison behind the iconic Le Pliage handbag has selected New York for its debut due to its embodiment of the free, daring spirit modelling Longchamp’s DNA.
In commemoration of its 70th anniversary, Longchamp has announced that it will stage its first full-scale runway show at New York Fashion Week this September.
The Maison behind the iconic Le Pliage handbag – which correspondingly celebrates its 25th anniversary this year – has selected New York for its debut (in lieu of somewhere closer to its French home ground), due to its embodiment of the free, daring spirit modelling Longchamp’s DNA. This also caps its American-themed year – from the launch of a flagship store on Fifth Avenue to its collaboration with designer Shayne Oliver and the naming of Kendall Jenner as its latest ambassador.
“We felt that this was the right time to take things to the next level and to set out our vision of the dynamic, cosmopolitan Longchamp woman,” says Creative Director Sophie Delafontaine. “Longchamp has always acted on intuition – something we can allow ourselves to do because we are independent – and we chose New York as we are inspired by the energy and freedom of the city.”
Recent years have seen Longchamp expanding its ready-to-wear range in an effort to evolve from a leather goods label to a lifestyle brand. The upcoming show will continue to underscore this growth, while honouring the past 70 years of the house’s savoir-faire.
It is expected to be one of two headline events for the brand in September, alongside its 70th anniversary celebrations at the Opéra Garnier in Paris.
The Longchamp fashion show will be held on 8 September 2018 at a venue to be announced soon.
