In a time where “work hard, play hard” is a common ethos held by many of today’s global citizen, Tumi has unveiled a new capsule collection made for the modern hustler, inspired by the performance and reliability of McLaren’s sporty automobiles.
The collaboration between the two brands were first announced in 2019, bringing together Tumi’s Creative Director Victor Sanz and McLaren’s Rob Melville to combine elements of cutting-edge technology and contemporary luxury to create an everyday line that’s inherently premium yet effortless.
Comprised of nine pieces, the capsule collection embodies TUMI and McLaren’s mutual ethos of performance luxury. Each encompasses elements of McLaren’s sleek, bold supercars and race cars, such as highlights in McLaren’s signature Papaya colourway as well as CX6® carbon fibre accents. Key travel pieces include the Aero International Expandable 4 Wheel Carry-On and the Quantum Duffel. The former is crafted in a hybrid of materials, including Tegris® – an extremely hard-wearing thermoplastic composite that’s found in race cars. The hard shell is contrasted by a moulded-fabric front panel with a supercar-influenced design that is echoed throughout the collaboration.
The solid build not only allows optimum protection of its contents, but it also incorporates further elements of McLaren’s supercar designs. The interior features a compression strap that’s inspired by the six-point racing harnesses found in its race cars and track-only models such as the limited edition McLaren Senna GTR.
Practical pieces include the Velocity Backpack – created for today’s multihyphenate who needs to stay connected all day, as it comes with a USB port and padded laptop compartment. Tumi’s hallmark “Add-a-Bag” sleeve makes it a fitting companion to the collection’s carry-on.
As for more portable companions, there’s the Torque Sling and Lumin Utility Pouch, which make for stylish, contemporary pieces for relaxed, hands-free days. Completing the capsule collection are the Orbit Small Packing Cube, Trace Expandable Organiser, and split compartment Teron Travel Kit – ultra-portable accessories to keep your belongings protected, organised, and readily available through every leg of your journey.
