TUMI is taking the next step to further minimise its impact on the environment with the launch of TUMI Merge – its first sustainable luggage collection.
High quality luggages are not just important for durability, but also to avoid contributing unnecessary waste to the planet. TUMI is one brand that has led the market in that area, and now it’s taking the next step to further minimise its impact on the environment with the launch of TUMI Merge – its first sustainable luggage collection.
The collection debuts alongside select styles from the Alpha Bravo collections, all of which are made with recycled materials, to offer consumers the option to make a conscious choice for Earth without compromising style or quality.
“When the time is right for travelers to embark on their next journey, our promise is to protect not only their treasured personal items, but also the world they travel to see,” said Victor Sanz, TUMI’s Creative Director. “The TUMI brand is innovative by nature, but we are sustainable by choice. And as such, we are committed to designing innovative products and manufacturing processes that take care of our planet, while ensuring that our people are treated with respect and care.”
According to TUMI, the brand’s Spring 2020 collection alone have diverted more than 395,000 plastic bottles from landfills. Of this number, 214,000 are owed to the production of the Merge range, which uses post-consumer rPET derived from these recycled plastic bottles. Another 172,800 were diverted from the production of select Alpha Bravo styles.
Moreover, the luggages from both collections feature body fabric made out of post-industrial recycled nylon, which were also destined for landfills until TUMI repurposed them as a hardworking textile suited for modern travel.
Sustainability doesn’t stop at materials and their durability for TUMI; the brand concerns itself with the full lifespan of each product even after it’s sold. This is why repairability is engineered into the product designs, complemented by an extensive global repair network to ensure that all TUMI bags stay on the road, keeping them away from landfills.
“As part of our sustainability program, TUMI will continue to make changes across our business to minimize our impact on climate change,” added Christine Riley Miller, TUMI’s Director of Sustainability. “The robust performance of recycled PET alone – meeting all of our 30 rigorous tests – enables us to use responsible materials with no compromise for our customers and uphold our commitment to protecting the planet we love to travel.”
The TUMI Merge collection and select sustainable Alpha Bravo styles are available to purchase now at TUMI stores and tumi.my.
