If you’re looking to explore a new pizza place for a change, take your pick from these 5 establishments around the Klang Valley.
Owing to a communal love for pizzas, KL is not short on pizza joints. We’re not just talking about the stuff you’re used to binging at house parties or large events, but also true-to-form wood-fired pizzas and gourmet varieties.
Whether you’re team pineapples on pizza or not, there are so many different toppings, crusts and sauces to try out. This year, even more pizzerias have joined the F&B scene in Klang Valley – much to the delight of pizza buffs (like us).
If you’re looking to explore a new pizza place for a change, take your pick from these 5 establishments around the Klang Valley.
Heritage Pizza, Chow Kit
As its name suggests, Heritage Pizza honours the food heritage that its Milan-born founder, Francesco Crispo, grew up with. Set in the storied Chow Kit neighbourhood, the cosy restaurant features a facade archaic-looking brick walls that open to modern interiors spruced up with vibrant pop art portraits. With a Verona-built stone oven in its kitchen and a head chef formerly from the famed Prego restaurant at The Westin Kuala Lumpur, it makes a promising mark to live up to the standards of northern-Italian style pizza. Plus, you can add on toppings of buffalo mozzarella or burrata for that extra cheesy indulgence.
Location: 34, Jalan Doraisamy, Chow Kit, 50300 Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: 6pm-12am on Tuesdays; 12pm-2pm, 6pm-10pm on Wednesdays to Sundays (Closed on Mondays)
Phil’s Pizza, Bangsar
New to Bangsar’s ever-growing list of cafes, restaurants and bars is Phil’s Pizza, a humble yet colourful little spot in the bustling neighbourhood. Specialising in New York-style pizzas, this casual dining venue makes a cute corner to catch up with friends over giant slices (sold individually or as whole 12- ad 18-inch pizzas) and cups of soda. The selection isn’t extensive, but you’ll find the standard Margherita and Pepperoni types, as well as a decadent Truffle Mushroom option.
Location: 8, Jalan Telawi 2, Bangsar, 59100 Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: 11am-11pm from Tuesdays to Sundays (Closed on Mondays)
Pepo Pizza, Petaling Jaya
PJ folks, get your wood-fired pizza fix at Pepo Pizza. Located in a warehouse-laden vicinity with standout tall brick walls, this unassuming restaurant serves a range of classic and artisanal pizzas (all 100% wood-fired), antipastos, pastas, lunch bowls as well as beers and wines. You’ll see unusual flavours on the menu, such as Spicy Chicken Kimchi and Black Angus Bulgogi, though you can also stick with the regular Margherita or Capricciosa if you prefer. Dessert fans shouldn’t miss the Chocolate Cloud Dessert Pizza for a sweet treat after!
Location: Lot 5, Jalan 51a/225, Seksyen 51a, 46100 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Opening hours: 11am-3pm, 530pm-12am on Tuesdays to Sundays (Closed on Mondays)
Wood-Fired Oven Pizza (WOP), Plaza Damas
WOP Pizzeria isn’t exactly new. First introduced by husband-and-wife duo Ikmal Burhanuddin and Azara Nur Abdul Rahman back in 2016, the Neapolitan pizza joint started as a pop-up before setting up shop in Shah Alam. It was forced to close in May this year, one of the casualties of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to a partnership offer from SOCAR CEO Leon Sing Foong, they were able to reopen at a swanky new location in Plaza Damas last month. You won’t miss its strikingly red exteriors with counter seats out front, giving you a peek (and a whiff) of its signature Neapolitan pizzas. Try the Marinara for a real taste of its hand crushed San Marzano tomato sauce, or go for the Bianca Con Pomodorini if you prefer white pizza.
Location: Plaza Damas, H-0-8, No 60, Jalan Sri Hartamas 1, Sri Hartamas, 50480 Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: 11am-3pm, 5pm-10pm on Mondays to Thursdays; 11am – 10pm on Fridays to Sundays
Meat & Eat, Aman Suria
This isn’t your regular pizza restaurant; Meat & Eat offers the sinful trio of pizzas, burgers and pastas all under one roof. Interestingly, the restaurant uses Malaysian mangrove wood to fuel the fire for the making of its pizzas, whilst the beef patties are sourced and imported from Australia. It’s known for Chicago-deep-dish-pizza, but while you’re there, no harm trying the Philly cheese steaks either.
Location: 40, Jalan PJU 1/45, Aman Suria, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Opening hours: 11am-3pm, 6pm-10pm on Tuesdays to Sundays (Closed on Mondays)
