After years of innovation in the field of makeup, we’re still discovering new ways to showcase beauty. With Haute Couture Week just wrapping up, we’ve witnessed some of the fashion world’s most outstanding creatives put on spectacular shows. But one show in particular took the internet by storm: Maison Margiela, but specifically Pat McGrath’s “porcelain doll” makeup on the models. Dubbed online as “alien” or “porcelain” skin, the viral makeup look takes glass skin to the next level.
McGrath is no stranger to big beauty moments – she has covered Doja Cat in head-to-toe red crystals but she may have officially outdone herself by transforming models into porcelain dolls, featuring hyper-shiny smooth skin, pencil-thin eyebrows, acid-bright eye shadow and watercolour blush deliberately chosen to complement John Galliano’s collection.
The look has since gone viral on social media, with many trying their hand at McGrath’s creation from home. Fans have gone as far as to recreate the vision using a cucumber peel-off gel mask and Kryolan Liquid Glass, a liquid glaze that dries to a reflective finish. And because of all the hype, McGrath hosted a live masterclass on Instagram that showcased how she and her team achieved this history-making glam.
During the masterclass, she shared a detailed list of the products in crafting the look which included Pat McGrath Labs Divine Skin: Rose 001™ The Essence, Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation, Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Concealer, Divine Blush: Legendary Glow Colour Balm, PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil in XTREME BLACK, MatteTrance Lipstick in GUINEVERE and various Mothership eyeshadow palettes.
After applying the makeup and SFX glue to ensure the longevity of the look, McGrath then loaded airbrushes and mixed together four peel-off face masks: Freeman’s aforementioned Cucumber Peel Off Gel Mask, Que Bella Hydrating Pineapple Peel Off Face Mask, Proot Calendula Peel Off Face Mask and Daggett & Ramsdell Australian Tea Tree Oil & Vitamin E Peel Off Facial Mask.
If you’re not keen on recreating McGrath’s goopy skin finish at home, fear not as during the Instagram live, she also revealed that she’s developing a one-stop product to achieve the look.
