After presenting her first haute couture collection for Christian Dior in a magical woodland fairytale set, Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri puts on a global safari-themed show at the Hôtel des Invalides in Paris for Dior’s Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 2017 collection.
The set traces the design of the Earth’s sphere, complete with a star-shaped amphitheater branching out into distinct runways, each representing a continent and containing its specific set of wooden animal sculptures.
In conjunction with the French house’s 70th anniversary, Chiuri pays homage to Monsieur Dior himself, with a collection that echoes the words in his autobiography that “a complete collection should address all types of women in all countries”.
Following that concept, Chiuri’s latest collection saw a few inspired pieces from the founder’s archives, such as the grey belted jacket featured in the opening look. The Italian designer’s personal influences also shone through the later part of the show, as seen in the delicate gowns with frills and knife-pleated details.
