Asymmetry is the key-word, with dresses that ride up on a hip, shoulders that drop on a side and trousers that boast one leg denim and the other completely studded.
No one marries street grunge and glam quite like Alexander Wang and he secured his spot yet again as the king of street style cool with his spring summer show, codenamed #WANGFEST.
And a fest it was, complete with a party bus from which models hopped on and off in three different locations, party favours in black leather drawstring bags and a bouncy castle for the after party.
Head-turning guerilla style mobile pop-up aside, the show dominated social media with the biggest model names. Opening the show was Kaia Gerber, leading the way for Anna, Kendall and Bella.
They marched out in Wang’s signature distressed lookbook, spruced up with asymmetrical cut-offs, freestyle layering, lots of denim and edgy drawstring waists.
Deconstructed off-the-shoulder button-downs were not missed; Wang presented the sweater versions of the must-have silhouette, spliced with silk camisoles. There was also an interesting crisp formal shirt and laidback pajama top mash for the ultimate dual prim and proper vs casual chic vibe.
Asymmetry is the key-word perhaps, with dresses that ride up on a hip, shoulders that drop on a side and trousers – skinny jeans and shredded baggies alike – that boast one leg denim and the other completely studded. Of course, Wang’s signature black leather didn’t sit this one out, peeking from underneath frayed shorts as tights and layered over button-downs as a corset or two.
Again we say, no one marries street grunge and glam quite like Alexander Wang.
