Inspired from the brand’s new Whitney handbag, Yang Mi’s take features heart and star-shaped silver-tone hardware in a nod to the special occasion.
In celebration of Qixi, also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day, Michael Kors has teamed up with actress and brand ambassador Yang Mi to create two limited-edition handbags.
This is the first time the brand is recognising the 2,000-year-old romantic mythology, which is observed annually on the 7th day of the 7th month in the lunar calendar – setting it at 17th August this year.
Inspired from the brand’s new Whitney handbag, Yang Mi’s take features heart and star-shaped silver-tone hardware in a nod to the special occasion.
“Studs are always a part of my style, so I knew I wanted to use them in these designs,” Mi said of her red and black leather creations. “The heart shapes were perfect for symbolizing love this Qixi, while the star shapes were all about adding a little personality and attitude.”
To highlight the special collaboration, Michael Kors has unveiled a campaign shot by renowned Chinese photographer Chen Man. The campaign video and images portray Mi in a whimsical backdrop of the Shanghai skyline at sunset, flaunting the bold and symbolic bags.
Launched together with the collaboration is the Michael Kors X Yang Mi pop-up concept, allowing fans to get upclose and personal to shop the bags in Shanghai from August 1 to 19 and Chengdu from August 25 to September 2.
The bags are also available on the brand’s new WeChat Mini application, in which users can explore the collaboration and make transactions seamlessly within the platform.
