In an unlikely collaboration, Bvlgari and MB&F have partnered to create the Legacy Machine FlyingT Allegra, a feminine timepiece design that unites sophisticated coloured gems with a radically unique and futuristic design concept.
The partnership between the high jewellery brand and inventive watchmaker was born out of mutual professional respect between Bvlgari’s product creation executive director, Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, and MB&F’s founder and creative director, Maximilian Büsser. Bonding together the two brands’ differing styles is their shared love of taking unconventional creative approaches.
With Bvlgari’s graphically unique jewellery creations that channels Mediterranean warmth, and MB&F’s avant garde interpretations that play with volume and complexity, the Legacy Machine FlyingT’s bold construction and elegant ornamentation makes it the ideal piece to revisit for this joint project.
A vision of the cosmos
Showcasing its distinctive yet sophisticated design, the timepiece was made in such a way that only the wearer is able to read the time on it. Defying tradition and expectations, a vertically built movement along a central axis orchestrates the main architecture of the visually exposed mechanism.
In this subversive arrangement, elements that are typically hidden are openly put on display in this three-dimensional construction.
Set at a 50 degree angle, the hours and minutes dial leans against the diamond-set flying tourbillon and the balance. Its case-back shows off a sun-shaped oscillating weight, its gold rays rotating upon the ruthenium disc placed above a platinum counterweight.
Owing to the reduction in the number of gears, the barrel between the regulating organ and the rotor offers a generous 100-hour power reserve.
Intergalactic elegance
To serve as a counterbalance to the calculated precision and technical complexity of the watch, Bvlgari’s signature exuberant use of coloured stones joyfully encircles the movement. Carefully selected cabochon cut tourmaline, tsavorite, diamonds, rubellite, amethyst, tanzanite and topaz feature in the piece, along with the snow-set diamonds covering the dial.
Its case entirely redesigned by Bvlgari, the three-dimensional piece is topped off by a high sapphire crystal dome, resulting in a otherworldly, UFO-like profile.
The Legacy Machine FlyingT Allegra is limited to 20 pieces in 18K white gold, and another 20 pieces in 18K red gold diamond-set cases.
