You may know Iggy Pop, Ziggy Stardust, Camille, Sasha Fierce, and Slim Shady – now get ready to meet ‘Ricky Regal’, the alter ego of Bruno Mars when it comes to all things luxurious and fashionable. The singer-songwriter introduces his other self with the launch of his first fashion collection in collaboration with Lacoste, bringing together the pop star’s signature style and the brand’s take on sporty luxury.
Inspired by the free spirit of ‘60s and ‘70s glamour, Miami nightlife and of course, the euphoria of experiencing live music – the Lacoste x Ricky Regal collection features a lively range of retro T-shirts, sweatsuits, oversized shorts, footwear, tracksuits, and accessories. Even the classic Lacoste polo shirt gets a touch of the singer’s signature flair, sporting vibrant and bold prints, as well as a lush velvet edition.
Dubbed “everyday sports luxury” that channels Ricky Regal’s “flamboyant rhythm”, the collection is not for the faint of heart or the timid, with its use of strong, vivid colours and prints. Think mustard yellow, petrol green, eggplant purple, coral red, and as one would expect – tie-dye. Materials such as velvet, silk, and cotton bridge the line between carefree and glamour.
In a statement, Mars commented: “I’ve been very fortunate to have been asked to do collaborations in the past, but it always came with guidelines. Lacoste was the first and only brand that said ‘Bruno, you can do whatever you want.’ The respect of such creative freedom coming from a heritage fashion house was an honour.”
While today marks the launch of the Lacoste x Ricky Regal collection in select retailers worldwide, the collection will be available for purchase on 8 March 2021 at select Lacoste boutiques as well as the brand’s website.
