Drawing on this heritage, JLC has unveiled the new Polaris Mariner collection, featuring two sport-oriented dive watches.
In 1968, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the Memovox Polaris that rose to become an icon of the Maison for its alarm function. The luxury watchmaker continued to refine and refresh the sporty elegance of the Polaris collection, which stands beside the Reverso and Master lines as some of its most noteworthy collections.
Drawing on this heritage, JLC has unveiled the new Polaris Mariner collection, featuring two sport-oriented dive watches. Introducing the Polaris Mariner Date and the Polaris Mariner Memovox, which are nearly identical – except for the signature alarm function and other subtle design cues.
Both arrive in a 42mm stainless steel case with a deep blue dial contrasted with orange highlights – markedly different from original Polaris models. The dial has a three textured finish, blending grain, gloss and sunray touches.
Also unlike predecessors, the two watches are compliant with ISO 6425 standards, which makes them solid dive watches with a 300-meter depth rating. You’ll see “Diving 300m / 1000ft” engraved at the bottom of the dial, highlighting its marine-r capabilities (see what we did there).
The Polaris Mariner Date is powered by the JLC Caliber 899, while the Polaris Mariner Memovox houses a JLC Caliber 956. These movements can be seen from the sapphire crystal casebacks in both watches.
There are two crowns on the Polaris Mariner Date, one to work the movement and the other to set the dive time on the inner bezel. The Polaris Mariner Memovox adds a third crown, which operates the alarm function – retaining the signature ‘school bell’ sound from the original that’s audible even deep underwater.
Completing the two models are identical triple-row link bracelets in stainless steel, polished with a matte finish to match the steel case. The Polaris Mariner Date costs $11,000 whereas the Polaris Mariner Memovox is priced at $17,600 excluding sales tax.
