For the past 70 years, Jaeger-LeCoultre has been celebrated for one of its most recognizable wristwatch alarms, the Memovox, securing its legacy by using the function to create different Memovox models over the decades. The most recent invention was the limited edition Master Control Memovox Timer, released in 2020 and features an entirely new alarm system.
The highly sought-after steel model returns now reimagined in pink gold with a two-tone grey and black dial.
Elegant Design
The Master Control Memovox Timer’s dial is designed in concentric circles, with a black sunray-brushed background while the innermost ring is carved in bas-relief, with highly polished numerals. A little hand tipped with a red JL logo indicates the elapsed hours-until-alarm. The trademark triangle marking on the Memovox showcases the moment when the alarm will sound, which is indicated on a second concentric ring. the applied hour indexes – a characteristic of mid-century Memovox models.
Long time fans of Jaeger-LeCoultre will recognize the signature “school bell” sound of the alarm, which is a major element that continues from previous generations. With its sloping bezel, dynamically curved lugs, and mix of polished and satin-brushed surfaces, the pink gold 40-millimetre Master Control case conveys a comfortable and timeless elegance that contrasts with the rich colours of the dial. Both sides include sapphire crystals, and the case is water-resistant to 50 metres.
New Alarm Function
The self-winding Calibre 956, like all Jaeger-LeCoultre calibres, was developed, and produced in-house, and is now completely reworked for the next generation of alarm watches by the Manufacture’s engineers. The Timer feature allows the user of the watch to set the alarm based on the number of hours that should occur before the alarm sounds. The owner can also use the usual method of setting the alarm based on a specific time. The indicators are linked so that no matter whether the alarm-setting method is selected, the second indicator will shift to the appropriate place.
The gongs were previously affixed to a closed case back on Memovox watches. However, the Master Control case has been redesigned to have a clear sapphire back, allowing the wearer to enjoy viewing the hammers in action. A clear view of the strike-works is provided by an open-worked pink gold rotor, which is adorned with Côtes de Genève to complement the excellent finishing on the movement plates.
