Notwithstanding the weight of the pandemic and consequential postponement from its usual calendar, the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards kicked off as planned on Sunday evening (this morning local time) in California, United States.
While the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) may be under fire now over a lack of representation for black actors and filmmakers, the ceremony went on to honour several female directors, trendy TV shows and what small number of black artists who made the cut.
Among the most noteworthy achievements of the evening was Chloe Zhao with the Best Director Award for “Nomadland” – making her the first woman of Asian descent and the second woman ever to win the award since 1984, when Barbara Streisand was honoured for her role in “Yentl.” Meanwhile, “The Queen’s Gambit,” “The Crown” and “Schitt’s Creek” dominated television awards across acting and best series categories.
Without further ado, here’s the full list of winners and nominees of the 2021 Golden Globes.
