The first awards season of the decade has commenced with the 77th annual Golden Globes kicking off in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Ricky Gervais returned to host the show for his fifth time, whereas fellow comedian Kate McKinnon had the pleasure of presenting the Carol Burnett award to Ellen DeGeneres for her contribution to the TV industry. Meanwhile, Tom Hanks accepted the Cecil B. Mille Award with an emotional monologue that moved everyone (including himself) to tears.

On the awards front, Netflix came in strong this year with 36 nominations across both film and television categories, including divorce drama “Marriage Story” which topped the list with six nods, and mobster film “The Irishman” with five.
