As part of the final drop of the 2021 ASICS x Vivienne Westwood collaboration, the renowned sports brand and British fashion marque saved the best for last with the launch of the exclusive GEL-KAYANO™ 27 DE sneakers.
The new sneakers are designed with the seminal Westwood DIY aesthetic, playing with deconstruction where each element of the sneaker reveals the next, purposefully contrasted in monochrome or earth tones with vibrant underlays.
Westwood’s Creative Director, Andreas Kronthaler, was inspired by the technical form of the sneaker, and wanted the design to showcase the specialised framework of the upper shoe while celebrating the craftwork behind the design. The upper fabric of the GEL-KAYANO™ 27 DE consists of ripstop fabric – traditionally used by the military for its strength and durability – which also gives a raw textural quality to the structural design of the sneaker.
While this new drop isn’t made to be a running shoe, the midsole and outsole of the GEL-KAYANO™ 27 DE keeps the same technologies found in the GEL-KAYANO™ 27. It features advanced materials and construction such as GEL™ technology cushioning and DYNAMIC DUOMAX™ technology, which all function together as part of ASICS’ I.G.S™(Impact Guidance System). This ensures that the sneakers provide a fluid ride as well as efficient and natural performance.
The limited edition model ASICS X VIVIENNE WESTWOOD GEL-KAYANO™27 DE are available in two colourways – lichen green/ox brown and white/lichen rock. they are available at selected ASICS stores and online, with a retail price of RM879.
