Tesla surprised the world last Thursday with the launch of its very own Tesla Tequila. That’s right, Elon Musk has made good on his 2018 tweet (something about passing out against a Tesla Model 3, surrounded by “Teslaquila” bottles) which everyone presumed to be an April Fool’s joke then.

This is not a forward-looking statement, because, obviously, what’s the point?

Perhaps it was the joke that inspired the idea, or perhaps the billionaire tech CEO was subtly dropping hints. We’ll never be able to comprehend the guy’s genius, but here we are, with news of his legitimate $250 bottle of tequila.
For some context, Tesla had officially filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the brand name “Teslaquila” In October 2018.
Musk then tweeted the news and offered a “visual approximation” of the product via a photo that showed the bottom half of a bottle with Tesla branding and lightning bolt signs.

Earlier in July this year, he teased the arrival of the liquor in a tweet that said: “Coming soon, our battle with Big Tequila! It’s real.” Indeed, the real deal finally went on sale online on Thursday – and it sold out within seven hours of its launch.
Officially dubbed Tesla Tequila instead of the original moniker, the exclusive, small-batch premium 100% agave tequila anejo is made from “sustainably sourced highland and lowland agaves”. According to the electric car giant, the liquor was aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, and features fruit, vanilla, cinnamon, and pepper notes.
Contrary to the tweeted picture, the tequila comes in a hand-blown glass flacon shaped like a lightning bolt. It also comes with a metal stand bearing the Tesla logo. At 40% alcohol by volume, it is best enjoyed as a sipping tequila, the website notes.
Unfortunately for the rest of us in other parts of the globe, Tesla Tequila is only available in certain states in America that allow direct shipment of liquor. Some resellers claiming to have secured an order have since listed the bottle and stand for sale on eBay, minus its contents.
It is unknown how many bottles were produced or offered in the initial release. There’s no news on future releases yet either. Guess we’ll have to keep up with Musk on Twitter for further updates.
