“The idea of the Black Carpet was to convey the energy and rebel attitude of the runway collection on a capsule collection of evening wear.”
Taking cue from the youthful expression of the Dior Homme SS18 Menswear collection, Dior Homme presents its second Black Carpet capsule with a fresh and edgy reinterpretation of formal ready-to-wear designs.
“The idea of the Black Carpet was to convey the energy and rebel attitude of the runway collection on a capsule collection of evening wear while playing with the embellishment codes and the know-how of Dior,” artistic director Kris Van Assche said.
It’s clear that embroidery is the main highlight of the collection, divided into four themes for a distinctive finish yet equally sophisticated glamour: Rose embroidery, Lily of the valley, Jewel details and Fabric effects.
Rose embroidery
Kris goes for an elegant and refined twist with tone on tone rose embroidery, as seen on this pair of black patent calfskin leather heel shoes.
Lily of the Valley
Monsieur Dior’s lucky flower comes in black for this collection, featured in leather and small bead openwork on the jersey and suit jackets.
Jewel details
Two jewel details are incorporated into the collection – the first being the familiar Fall 2017 jewel bee reworked into the lapel of a suit and all over heeled leather shoes; and the second being “jewel tubes” sewn around the suit collar and all over the pants.
Fabric effects
The final theme plays around with the full black monochrome look while drawing attention to contrasting details by attaching small pieces of leather embroideries to a twill wool jacket.
