There’s probably no brand more evocative of Great British style than the House of Burberry. In his third fashion show as the creative director of Burberry, Daniel Lee continued to lean into the House’s outdoor and nature connections, as well as the landscapes and people of the UK and Ireland. The collection offered a more outdoorsy sophistication, centred around protection and warmth with outerwear, with Burberry trenches appearing in moleskin, alongside duffle coats and field jackets.
The show was held in a roomy tent in East London’s Victoria Park filled with iconic attendees such as Anna Wintour, Skepta, Central Cee, Saltburn star Barry Keoghan, Peggy Gou, Lila Moss and many others who took their seats on huge sheepskin poufs. Naomi Campbell made an appearance, walking the runway in a strapless sparkling fringed dress in deep green decorated with pearls reminiscent of a walking moss. Wearing floor-sweeping tartan pleats, Phoebe Philo’s daughter Maya Wigram also took the closing lap of the show, walking to the notes of an Amy Winehouse mash-up.
The majority of the collection is cast in nudes, military greens, olives, and browns, evoking an outdoorsy vibe. Modernised trench coats with prints, geometric cuts and broad shoulders reign supreme throughout the collection. Scarves, capes, and furry collars and cuffs become shields against wind and rain. The use of asymmetries, zips and deep necklines become essential elements of the garments, while boots and bags adopt the iconic motifs of the English house, from the emblematic foundations to the majestic Equestrian Knight.
“I wanted this collection to feel warm and protective,” said Lee of the collection. “The collection itself is inspired by British and Irish wool and fabric, centred around protection and warmth. Burberry trenches are designed with texture in mind. Coats are at the core, shoes and bags are functional. These pieces are made for the outdoors.”
