This year, the Maison introduces two jewellery sets that depict the charm of the Western Zodiac signs, honouring the history of astronomy. Like the medals that made their debut in their initial collections in the 1950s with their subtle variations of decorative stones, the designs mix elements of astronomy and nature and are created entirely of pure gold. With its captivating collections that mimic the symbolism of the constellations, mesmerising the splendour of the celestial bodies and the heavenly vault, Van Cleef & Arpels celebrates the newly begun Virgo season with its captivating antique necklaces.
Precious Tableux
The one-of-a-kind and distinctive necklaces pay homage to the colourful pendants created by Van Cleef & Arpels in the 1970s by reinterpreting each zodiac sign. Each creation is exquisitely decorated on both sides with embellishments, making it appear to be a real three-dimensional tableau. In a style reminiscent of Art Deco compositions, the earth element is stylised in the backdrop and the maiden of fellow Virgos is shown in relief in the foreground. Rose gold adopts various textures, giving the ensemble a sense of movement.
The backs of the necklaces were made using the same methods as their fronts. The inspiration that has drawn Van Cleef & Arpels since the dawn of time remains encaptivating. The earth sign Virgo is represented by malachite, which features undulating motifs for Virgo.
Gold Medals
The gold metal necklace is a modern reinterpretation of the yellow gold medals that were featured in the Van Cleef & Arpels collection in its early years. The Maison has recreated its first Zodiac medals in honour of its rich tradition. They have been brought back to life by Van Cleef & Arpels in new dimensions (21 mm in diameter) that highlight their meaning and personal nature. The pieces, which are made of intricately polished yellow gold, are decorated on both sides with the maiden symbol for Virgo’s and dates related to the signs in a delicate interplay. This medal signifies a personal bond with the wearer as it signifies their zodiac month, celebrating life.
