Pop art was the main inspiration, with paint splatters, abstract shapes and ample colour heavily decorating the collection.

Too often we forget that fashion is also a form of art, which could be why Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia chose Sotheby’s York Avenue galleries to premiere their sophomore collection for Oscar de la Renta.

In line with the venue, pop art was the main inspiration, with paint splatters, abstract shapes and ample colour heavily decorating the collection.

Shirt dresses opened the show, aptly providing the crisp white background on which we first see the paint splotches. They move on to shirts, skirts and denim, all retaining a tailored slouch of a silhouette.

A selection of blazers and tapered pants were spared the splatters, but boast solid vibrant colours of red, yellow, pink and blue of their own.

Dresses borrow the mix and match collage of art school, splicing and joining elements like handwriting, scribbles and drawls over a variety of materials just as varied – mesh with silk over organza and a touch of leather.

Kim and Garcia let themselves have fun with the daywear but come time for the evening dresses, they stayed true to their Oscar de la Renta training with pretty numbers in a selection of tulle and sequins, painted in gradient hues the colour of the rainbow.
