While many see jewellery as mere adornment, Victoire de Castellane, the artistic director of Dior Joaillerie, views it as a love letter to the founder of Dior. Since her introduction of the Rose des Vents line in 2015, each piece has become a subtle connection between the wearer and the superstitious spirit of Christian Dior, whose belief in lucky charms and guiding symbols shaped the house’s mythology. To understand the poetry behind Rose des Vents, one must first understand Dior’s fascination with fate. Symbols of luck, destiny, and travel have long defined the Dior universe, where meaningful motifs are transformed into enduring emblems. Christian Dior spent his time looking at stars for destiny, carrying lucky charms, and seeking advice from his favourite clairvoyant, Madame Delahaye, during times of need. He called it a “strength of act”.
In 1998, Victoire de Castellane was appointed as Dior Joaillerie’s artistic director. It was a completely new jewellery department at the House of Dior, and from the start, she succeeded in delivering magical, colourful, and creative collections that would have delighted the founding couturier himself. But it was Castellane’s visit to Christian Dior’s childhood home, Villa Les Rhumbs, in Granville, that led to the birth of an eternal icon.
A compass rose in Granville

Amidst his outdoor garden was a compass rose, a captivating maritime motif indicating the cardinal directions, made entirely of mosaic. Captivated by its symbolism, Castellane reimagined the design as a delicate gold medallion, placing a diamond at its centre as a guiding star. In doing so, she transformed a simple garden detail into a jewel that embodies Dior’s spirit of exploration. Arranged in a circular, twisted bead pattern inspired by a sailor’s knots, the negative space allows for the setting of various precious stones, including rose quartz, mother-of-pearl, and opalite. In 2015, the Rose des Vents collection made its debut to much love and fanfare.
Rose Céleste: A Dialogue Between Sun and Moon

In 2019, Dior introduced Rose Céleste, the first expansion of the Rose des Vents universe. Its compositions represent the mysticism of the moon and the radiance of the sun, paying tribute to Monsieur Dior’s love for astrology. With each movement, the moon and the sun interact through the glistening onyx and the sculpted yellow-gold sun, telling two sides of the same story. “It’s a game of hide-and-seek between the moon and the sun,” she explained.
Étoile des Vents: The Lucky Star

Then came Étoile des Vents, an odyssey that opened a new streamlined chapter for the collection. The design pays tribute to the founding couturier’s celestial fortune symbol, essentially inspired by the centre of Rose des Vents and stripped of its coloured stones to shift the focus to its gold and pavé diamonds. “I like to imagine those who wear it will keep it forever as if it were a guiding charm, leading them towards endless adventures,” said the designer.
Despite nearly three decades behind the wheel, Castellane’s values for her designs remain strong: heritage, imagination, and symbolism. In an eternal dialogue with the past, present and future, she continues to sketch a new creative vocabulary, stretching the limits of fine excellence. For her, Rose des Vents emerged as a metaphor for creation itself – a journey of seeking, turning, and ultimately discovering one’s direction. “Creation is the footprint left behind by a motionless voyage,” explained Castellane.
Dior Rose des Vents: the new visual

Rose des Vents entered its 10th anniversary in 2025, with 16 new creations spanning rings, bracelets, necklaces, a brooch, and a watch. Dior celebrated the dazzling decade with celestial star and moon motifs, talismanic gris-gris lucky charms, and lucky star designs.
More recently, Dior purveys its fresh visual presentation through ambassadors Mia Goth, Ever Anderson, and Sophie Wilde in a newly released campaign in February. It highlights Dior’s approach to use globally renowned cultural personalities, expanding its target market towards younger luxury buyers in the fine jewellery market.
