They are part of materials that will be shared on a new documentary due to air on Britian’s ITV called ‘Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy’.
The world wept when Princess Diana, the People’s Princess, perished in the car accident of 1997. Ahead of the 20th anniversary of that fateful evening, her sons Princes William and Harry have released family photos of the late Princess, extracted from their personal family albums.
They are part of materials that will be shared on a new documentary due to air on Britian’s ITV called Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy on which the two princes also open up about what they remember of their short relationship with their mother, as well as the last phone conversation they had with her, mere hours before the accident.
Prince Harry remembers his mother as “a total kid” and “one of the naughtiest parents” whose laugh he still vividly remembers whenever someone speaks of her.
“When somebody says to me, ‘so she was fun, give us an example,’ all I can hear is her laugh in my head. And that sort of crazy laugh where happiness was shown on her face. One of her mottos to me was ‘you can be as naughty as you want, just don’t get caught’,” he tells in the trailer video.
The documentary will be the first time the two of them about up about Diana as a mother since her death at 36.
“Arguably probably a little bit too raw, up until this point,” he says. “It’s still raw.”
On recalling the last conversation they had with Diana before her death in Paris, they remember being abrupt with her on the phone because they were with their cousins and were impatient to hang up so they could continue playing.
“Harry and I were in a desperate rush to say ‘goodbye, see you later, can I go off?’” William recalls. “If I’d known what was going to happen I wouldn’t have been quite so blasé about it.”
Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy’ will air on @itv at 9pm on Monday 24th July.
