With Olympic fever sweeping the nation, it seems right to celebrate the only way we know how – with copious amounts of sushi featuring an Olympic twist. If there was a gold medal for eating, we’d be the champions. In an exciting union of Malaysian sporting and culinary excellence, Nobu KL and the Foundation for Malaysian Sporting Excellence (SportExcel) have curated an Olympics-inspired menu for every food and sports lover to enjoy while watching the games live.
The collaboration took the form of a special luncheon with a few Malaysian sports legends including former Olympic sprinters Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Mani Jegathesan and Noraseela Mohd Khalid, track and field luminary Datuk Marina Chin, swimming champion Jeffrey Ong, and celebrated track cyclists Dato’ Azizulhasni Awang and Nurul Izzah Izzati. Throughout the lunch, the athletes shared their personal experiences while providing key insights and opinions on raising Malaysian sporting standards, while inspiring a new generation of champions.
Curated by Nobu’s Executive Chef Philip Leong and Head Sushi Chef Renante Dominguez, the Olympic-inspired exclusive dishes features the Goshiki Maki (RM90++), a selection of sushi rolls that have been specially created to mirror the five colours of the Olympic rings: blue, red, green, yellow and black. There’s also the Butterfly Pea Chilean Sea Bass Roulade (RM180++), where fresh sea bass fillet is rolled in deep-fried seaweed, alongside The Five Continents (RM50++), a special dessert consisting of candy strawberry pieces, cheese ice cream and chocolate truffle, all topped with rice chip tuile.
“This special creation is a tribute to the athletes who commit themselves to achieving excellence and pushing the boundaries of human potential,” said Chef Renante Dominguez. “At Nobu, we strive to do this from a culinary perspective, as we innovate and craft dishes that not only delight the palate but also tell a story. We hope that our guests will enjoy this unique offering and feel inspired by the spirit of the Olympics that it represents. It is our way of bringing a piece of the Olympic excitement, right here in Kuala Lumpur.”
Nobu KL’s Olympics menu will be available throughout the Paris 2024 Olympic Games from 26 July to 11 August 2024.
