Netflix has released a teaser for the second season of its smash drama series “Squid Game,” as well as a note from creator, writer, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-Hyuk detailing which characters will return for season two.
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director, writer, and executive producer who made the announcement at the Netflix FYSEE event in Los Angeles last night (12 June), also penned a letter hinting at the possible return of Gi-hun, the Front Man, and “the man in the suit with ddakji,” as well as the introduction of a new character.
The letter also stated that fans will meet Cheol-su, the “boyfriend” of Young-hee, the show’s infamous robotic doll.
“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year,” Hwang said in the letter. “But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular series ever.”
Young-hee, a.k.a. the ‘Red Light, Green Light’ doll, will make a special appearance outside Fahrenheit88 in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, to celebrate the show’s revival. Today, June 13th, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., catch her for a gripping game of Red Light, Green Light.
Squid Game was Netflix’s “biggest-ever series upon launch,” according to CNN. It is the first Korean series on the platform to reach No. 1 in the United States, with 1.65 billion hours of viewing in the first 28 days after its premiere.
