In its quest to serve up out-of-the-ordinary dining experiences, Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur Chinatown unveils its latest venue: Lady Yi’s Tea House.
Where its bar Jann pours a stiff drink in the spirit of the nightlife of the district and Quan’s Kitchen cooks up local flavour and flair iconic of Petaling Street, Lady Yi’s Tea House invites all for a quiet slice of afternoon enjoyed over tea, cakes and finger foods in Peranakan style, crafted in homage of the local Baba Nyonya community.
Nestled in a quiet nook on the 7th floor of the hotel, adjacent to the hotel lobby, Lady Yi’s Tea House, named after the owner, Dato Choy Wai Hin’s his oldest daughter Yuin Yi, promises an intimate and serene hideaway from Kuala Lumpur’s hustle and bustle with sweeping views across the Chinatown neighbourhood.
Peranakan flourish from floor to ceiling
Floor to ceiling windows stream natural light, a contrast to the intricate dark wood panels and bold colours of the patterned tiles, plush furnishings, and framed phoenix painting. Lady Yi’s Tea House has that rare thing: a sense of place. Going beyond the confines of serving tea, it is an invitation to explore the rich Peranakan culture through a laudable selection of curated teas and fine Peranakan-inspired delicacies.
Peranakan flavour for the eyes and lips
Lady Yi’s Tea House is a tribute to the memories and conversations Yuin Yi had over afternoon tea with her dear grandmother and their shared love for kuih. “Onde Onde with extra Gula Melaka, Otak Otak slightly charred and Kaya with extra coconut and pandan, that’s how we liked them,” reminisces Yuin Yi who worked closely with Executive Chef Gerald Chong to curate a contemporary Peranakan Afternoon Tea menu rich in Nyonya flavors. Other delights include Chilli Prawn Pie Tee, Braised Tamarind Duck in Chinese Pancake and more. Even the butter and jam come with a local twist – red bean butter and local kaya jam await to layer decadently between the quintessential afternoon tea scones.
Peranakan tea for two
Enjoy it all in a beautifully packaged affair with the Peranakan Affair Afternoon Tea, priced at RM98+. The afternoon tea will be served on one-of-a-kind Peranakan porcelain worth a marvel and a few Instagram photos. They are each lovingly handpicked by Yuin Yi to honour the deep history of Straits Chinese homeware.
Lady Yi’s Tea House is open daily from 11am to 7pm. For enquires and reservations call/WhatsApp 012-507-3327 or email dining@fourpoints.com.
