The dining scene in Malaysia is a robust feast that leaves none wanting with delicacies ranging from street to fine. This season, we take a look at the restaurants putting Malaysian ingredients front and centre, as we comb the best of North to South of the Peninsular for a true and local exploration of Malaysian flavours.
The island state of Penang is a globally-renowned food mecca, drawing visits from travellers far and wide, all seeking good food.
In the heart of its capital city Georgetown, nestles Restaurant Au Jardin, a rising star in Penang’s blooming fine dining scene. Cooking up fine fare from ingredients grown, harvested and caught from in and around the island is chef proprietor Kim Hock Su. Restaurant Au Jardin’s artisanal menu is built around passion in showcasing the freshest ingredients from Penang. Some of these ingredients are renowned, some unconventional.
In spreading the spoils of the land that Penang has to offer, he will be sharing a taste of them with Raymond Tham and Alex Cheah, chef owner and co-founder of Beta and Skillet KL. They start off with a cocktail made with Martell cognac and a fruit native to Penang – nutmeg – followed by a menu built around passion in showcasing the freshest ingredients from Penang.
What do his guests think of Chef Kim Hock’s ode to his island home of Penang?
