Be marathon ready with Olympian Meb Keflezighi
You can now join Boston Marathon and New York City Marathon winner, as well as Olympic silver-medallist, Meb Keflezighi on your next treadmill session as he runs alongside Fitness+ instructor Emily Fayette. The 21-minute workout session will have you pushing through five sections that will have you fired up and ready to win your next 5K.
If you’re more of a podcast listener, then the Apple Fitness+ Time to Run audio training feature can help keep you company, as you listen to guidance from trainers to keep you motivated. There’s also Time to Walk, a slower pace guide where several guest stars tell their stories to inspire your daily walks.
Achieve the perfect running form
On top of the usual metrics like heart rate and pacing, you can also keep track of your running form to make sure you’re not just running fast but also running right. Form metrics include vertical oscillation, ground contact time and stride length, allowing you to improve your posture for more efficient runs.
With the Pacer training feature, your Apple Watch can act as a pacer for you, giving you alerts during your run to achieve your targeted finish time.
Pedal powered up with these cycling features
Did you know your Apple Watch can connect directly to supported cycling sensors? After a simple one-time Bluetooth connection set up, your Watch will automatically pair when you start a cycling session, allowing you to measure cadence and power metrics (like current power rating and a 30-minute overview of your power profile).
Plus, the Watch will also automatically calculate your Functional Threshold Power, which unlocks further Power Zone metrics that allow you to really see and analyse your performance in the bike saddle.
A winning stroke for all swimmers
Jump into the deep end and get to swimming with your Watch firmly on your wrist. Its in-built algorithms have been developed to accurately measure active calorie burn by looking at your swim laps, lap pace and stroke type.
And coming soon in watchOS 11, you’ll be able to use the Custom Workouts feature for the pool swims category, allowing for easier training sessions using the Watch’s haptics. You’ll also be able to import custom workouts from popular swim coaching apps directly into your Apple Watch for better cross-application functionality.
Training the mind for a healthy balance
Most times, fitness and health come down to your mental state too, and mindfulness is a great way to disconnect and focus on yourself. But if you can’t fully unplug, then take some time with the Mindfulness app directly on your wrist to breathe and reflect for the day. There are also guided meditations in the Fitness+ programme in varying themes and lengths so you can choose the one you need at any given moment.
More training and fitness features will be available this fall once watchOS 11 officially launches, including the new ability to measure training load so you can make better decisions about what kind of workout you should do today. iOS 18 will also bring new mindfulness features straight to your iPhone once the update rolls out in fall.
So now that you know about these features, are you feeling pumped up and inspired to train? Hit the road, track or pool and take part in the Olympic fever for yourself!
