Last year, international tennis superstar Rafael Nadal famously sold his US$3.3 million yacht known as the Beethoven. Not long after, he ordered another custom-made 80-foot luxury yacht: a Sunreef 80 Catamaran with a price tag of US$6.2 million.
The brand new water toy arrived in his hometown of Mallorca, Spain, just in time for his 34th birthday earlier this month. Unsurprisingly, the world no.2 men’s singles tennis player took it for a spin to celebrate the occasion with his newly wedded wife (as of last October), Xisca Perelló.
“As someone from an island, as I am, the sea is part of our lives and it’s not a secret that I love the sea. Every time I am at home in Mallorca I try to go out and find that time where I can just enjoy my time on a boat,” Rafa said of his splurge.

Rafa is no stranger to the Polish yacht manufacturer, having previously chartered a few of their vessels. This particular catamaran was specially commissioned by him and for him, however, and features interiors in his favourite colours of cream, coffee and beige – but we’ll get there in a bit.
Boasting 4,000 square feet of space, the yacht is designed for long cruises and can accommodate up to 12 people on board. It is powered by twin 1,200 hp engines that allows the vessel to reach a top speed of 24 knots or cruise speed of 14 knots.
There’s an expansive flybridge with a fully equipped wet bar, a barbecue area and a lounge with sun pads. Plus, the sizeable garage can store a number of jet skis and other water toys. But the interiors are where the 19-time Grand Slam winner lends his personal touch.
Sleek, modern and sophisticated, the interiors feature a large main deck saloon with direct access to the front terrace, four guest cabins with en-suite bathrooms and an exquisite owner’s suite with a private fold-out balcony. We’d imagine Rafa getting his tan on while enjoying the view from the modern owner’s sea terrace.
When not training or playing, the Spaniard often lounges at his home in Porto Cristo, Mallorca, where he owns a grand Mediterranean style mansion. The property also features an infinity pool overlooking the Porto Cristo Nautical Club, where he now keeps his new yacht.
