Volvo is charting a bold new course in Malaysia with the launch of two standout SUVs: the refreshed XC90 and the all-new EX90. These two flagships represent the best of both worlds – one a proven favourite, now more refined than ever, and the other a fully electric step into the future.
Each model offers a distinct take on luxury, performance, and Scandinavian design – whether you’re drawn to plug-in hybrid versatility or ready to go fully electric. What they share is a commitment to innovation, safety, and everyday comfort.
Read on as we explore how these two premium SUVs are redefining what it means to drive a Volvo.
A classic, reimagined: The updated XC90

The Volvo XC90 has long been admired for its family-friendly practicality, premium finish, and exceptional safety. Now, it’s back with refreshed styling, enhanced technology, and a smoother, more refined ride.
Outside, the facelift introduces a more modern Scandinavian aesthetic with slimmer headlights, a reshaped bonnet, and restyled air intakes. Inside, the cabin has been refined with a cleaner dashboard layout, new ambient lighting, and updated storage solutions, including a repositioned wireless charger and a more accessible cupholder. Comfort is improved too, thanks to upgraded materials, sound insulation, and an advanced damping system that quiets road noise while enhancing the ride.
Under the bonnet, buyers can choose between two hybrid powertrains. The XC90 Ultra T8 plug-in hybrid produces a punchy 462 hp and 709 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0–100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds while using as little as 1.8 litres of fuel per 100 km. It also offers up to 77 km of electric-only range under the WLTP cycle – perfect for daily commuting. The XC90 Ultra B5 mild hybrid delivers 263 hp and 390 Nm of torque, with a 0–100 km/h time of 7.7 seconds. Its 48V battery system helps reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency by up to 15%.
Both versions are paired with a 2.0-litre engine, an eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. In Malaysia, both variants come exclusively in the top-tier Ultra trim, offering a suite of luxury and safety features. These include a high-resolution 11.2-inch central infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital driver display with a head-up display, and Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control. Drivers also benefit from a 360-degree camera system, ventilated power-adjustable front seats with lumbar support and memory function, and a panoramic sunroof. The cabin environment is further elevated with four-zone climate control and a premium 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system that delivers concert-like sound quality.
Colour options include Onyx Black, Denim Blue, Crystal White, and Vapour Grey – all matched with a Charcoal interior finished in Nappa leather upholstery and Grey Ash wood trim.
The XC90 Ultra T8 is priced at RM434,888 in Peninsular Malaysia and RM434,457 in Sabah and Sarawak. The XC90 Ultra B5 starts from RM418,888 and RM418,457 respectively. Each comes with five years of free digital services, 24/7 roadside assistance, and an unlimited-mileage warranty. The hybrid battery is covered for eight years.
Enter the future: The all-electric Volvo EX90

Joining the XC90 is Volvo’s most advanced SUV to date – the EX90. This fully electric, seven-seater flagship represents a bold leap toward autonomy and electrification, with innovations designed to protect, anticipate, and adapt.
Designed with elegance and aerodynamics in mind, the EX90 cuts a striking silhouette with a drag coefficient of just 0.29. Powered by a 111 kWh lithium-ion battery, it delivers an impressive 517 hp and 910 Nm of torque. The performance-focused all-wheel drive system launches the EX90 from 0–100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds, while offering up to 623 km of range (WLTP). Fast-charging technology allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes – ideal for busy lives.
At its core, the EX90 is a computer on wheels, powered by Volvo’s in-house software, NVIDIA’s AI platforms, and a robust central computing system. It features next-generation safety tools such as lidar technology, which scans the road using laser pulses to detect obstacles in 3D – even in complete darkness. This allows the EX90 to identify pedestrians from up to 250 metres away and small road hazards up to 120 metres ahead. Volvo estimates that adding lidar could reduce severe accidents by up to 20% and overall collisions by 9%.
Volvo’s Driver Understanding System uses cameras and steering sensors to monitor the driver’s alertness and wellbeing. If the system detects distraction, drowsiness, or unresponsiveness, it can safely stop the car and call for help. Another innovation, Occupant Sensing, uses interior radar to detect even tiny movements – ensuring no child or pet is accidentally left inside. If movement is detected, the vehicle will stay unlocked, alert the driver, and keep climate control running.

Inside, the EX90 features a 14.5-inch infotainment screen powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip, offering an intuitive interface with fewer taps and smarter suggestions. Google built-in allows voice control via “Hey Google,” while Apple CarPlay is also standard. A second driver screen provides key metrics like speed and range, complemented by a large head-up display.
Comfort is a given with features like laminated panoramic glass, power-operated third-row seating, massage seats in the front row, air suspension, and four-zone climate control. The 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system delivers a studio-quality audio experience, while sustainable materials such as Nordico upholstery and FSC™-certified Birch wood décor reflect Volvo’s commitment to responsible luxury.
The EX90 is offered in Onyx Black, Crystal White, Vapour Grey, and a new shade – Sand Dune. Interior colour options include Charcoal or Cardamom.
Priced at RM442,888 for Peninsular Malaysia and RM442,648 in Sabah and Sarawak, the EX90 includes five years of digital services, an unlimited-mileage warranty, and an eight-year battery warranty. The first 50 customers will receive a complimentary wallbox charger and panoramic sunroof sunshade worth RM5,000.
