Dynamic BMW X design language meets electric performance in ‘The Boss’: the all-new BMW X5 Plug-in Hybrid.
Last month, BMW Malaysia officially announced the all-new BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport via a live event broadcasted through its social media platforms.
Debuting as the latest locally-assembled electrified mobility model from the BMW X range, the BMW X5 plug-in hybrid seeks to expand on the success of its predecessors as the best-selling Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) in its segment worldwide.
Commenting on the launch, Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, said: “The move not only underlines our commitment to continuously invest in Malaysia as a key market for the BMW Group in the region, but also our commitment to drive innovation and sustainability forward for the purpose of electromobility.”
Hoezl added that the X5 has proven to be the most efficient and powerful premium Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) on the road, accounting for more than 25% of the BMW X range deliveries.
To live up to this legacy, the newest iteration of the pioneering BMW X range model arrives with improved levels of performance, innovation and convenience. Get to know ‘The Boss’ upclose below.
Dynamic X design language
True to its athletic heritage, the new X5 boasts a signature kidney grille, prominent rear shoulders and wide wheel arches signaling significantly larger proportions for increased space and comfort.
Complementing these sporty updates are slim Adaptive LED headlights with BMW Selective Beam and front LED fog lights. Driving all that beefy yet surprisingly light bodyweight forward: striking 20-inch light alloy wheels in Star Spoke-style 740 M Bicolour, accompanied by M Sport brakes with blue calipers as part of the M Sport package.
Electric performance
Powering the X5 xDrive45e M Sport is a 3-litre 6-cylinder engine fitted with the BMW eDrive technology, which produces a combined output of 290kW/394hp and a peak torque of 600Nm. It achieves the century sprint in 5.6 seconds – more than a second faster than its forerunner – on the way to a top speed of 235km/h.
With a full charge on the full-electric mode, the hybrid SAV has an electrical driving range of up to 77km – up substantially from just 30km before. This justifies the longer charging times of six hours and 50 minutes with a BMW i Wallbox (3.7 kW output) or 10 hours and 30 minutes with the supplied charger and a three-pin, 240-volt domestic socket. Top speed is set at 135km/h.
Despite the increased power, BMW has managed to reduce carbon emissions of the new X5 to 56g/km, with a low fuel consumption of 2.5 litres per 100km.
More spacious interiors
Inside, the interiors of this 2020 variant have been updated with stylish Leather Vernasca upholstery to exude a more luxurious cabin. An electrically adjustable M leather steering wheel, Sport front seats with memory function, four-zone climate control and instrument panel in Sensatec enhance the cockpit experience.
The BMW Live Cockpit Professional – which features twin 12.3-inch Fully Digital Instrument Display and touchscreen Control Display panels – comes as standard alongside two 10.2-inch touchscreen monitors for the rear passengers, Intelligent Personal Assistant voice control, 464W 16-Speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system and Wireless charging.
Innovative driving assistance
When it comes to driving experience, the Driving Assistant package ensures safety with the intelligent Parking Assistant Plus with Surround View Camera and the Reversing Assistant.
Other standard BMW Personal Co-Pilot features include Lane Departure Warning, Lane Changing Warning, Frontal Collision Warning with braking intervention, Rear Crossing Traffic Warning, Rear Collision Prevention, as well as speed limit info.
