Versace is the latest high-end designer label to stop using fur in its designs, following the decision by Gucci and Michael Kors last year. The Italian fashion house announced in an official statement on March 16 that it will completely phase out fur from its designs, starting with its 2019 collections.
“Fur? I’m out of that. I don’t want to kill animals to make fashion. It doesn’t feel right,” Donatella Versace said.
The news came as a surprise for many (the pleasant kind, we hope), given the brand’s heritage of extravagant designs – particularly involving the use of real fur. As a matter of fact, you can still find a $1,450 rabbit fur cushion on the brand’s website today.
Nevertheless, Donatella has constantly been evolving her brother’s line, with this decision being a move in the positive direction. And now that the brand has joined the band of designers who have gone fur-free, we can’t help but wonder: who’s next?
