Kapoor’s generational connection to the maison
In an exceptional collaboration between one of the world’s most revered cognac maisons and a contemporary artist known for challenging the nature of perception, Rémy Martin and Anish Kapoor have unveiled a limited edition XO decanter and a companion artwork. Far more than a visual statement, the collaboration is a sensorial encounter; a confluence of liquid craft and artistic philosophy, shaped by history, heritage, and memory.
“There was a sense from the beginning of this project that it refers to my history,” Kapoor shares. “My father used to drink Rémy Martin when I was a boy in India, and I carried that with me.”
A sculptural decanter reflecting infinite possibilities
That intimate connection lays the foundation for the beguiling collaboration. Inspired by the rich complexity of Rémy Martin XO – a blend of hundreds of eaux-de-vie from Grande and Petite Champagne – the artist has reimagined the decanter with his signature sensibility for space and light. The outcome is a sculptural object that blurs the line between design and memory.
Kapoor’s re-envisioned decanter is minimalist in form, yet profoundly layered in meaning. A concave centre and glowing amber tones mirror the interplay of light and liquid. The surface is smoothed to reflect both viewer and environment, creating a kind of magnetic portal. “I toyed with it and decided on a much simpler design,” he explains. “Relating to this liquid, and how it functions… so it’s become present and real.”

Craftsmanship that echoes the shades of Remy Martin XO
The bottle’s copper-toned neck and stopper lend an elegant touch, enhancing its collectability. But the real beauty lies in its symbolism: the decanter, like Kapoor’s oeuvre, reflects infinite possibilities, acting as both vessel and metaphor.
Complementing the decanter is a new work from Kapoor’s recent series of painted concave mirrors, a sculpture infused with the deep tonal range of Rémy Martin XO. Echoing hues from pale gold to dark amber, the mirror shifts in colour and perception as the viewer moves. “I had to search for this colour,” Kapoor notes. “Because it’s a liquid and as the light changes, it changes, and the concave mirror captures its reflective qualities.”
A sensory experience beyond the glass
It’s this very exploration of seen and unseen, surface and depth that aligns the artist with Rémy Martin’s own ethos. “It’s the nature of the relationship between Rémy Martin and Anish Kapoor that makes this collaboration truly exceptional,” says Amaury Vinclet, Executive Director at Rémy Martin. “It radiates the energy of Rémy Martin XO, capturing reflections from the past and promises of new futures.”
The collaboration culminates in a tasting ritual that mirrors the experience of Kapoor’s piece. Rémy Martin XO, known for its opulent radiance and full-bodied complexity, is best enjoyed neat, on ice, or in the brand’s signature Gold-Fashioned cocktail, served with an edible gold leaf, like a flicker of sunlight caught in glass.

Memory, material, and the art of savoir-faire
Kapoor’s work has always been rooted in more than form alone. It is a contemplation on time, space, and the viewer’s own presence. In bringing his vision to Rémy Martin, he has transformed a decanter into a prism of memory and artistry. “Rémy Martin has a certain sophistication and almost a quiet place in my memory,” he reflects. “It has remained a constant, always there, it has a presence.”
