Dyson fans rejoice, because the exciting Supersonic r is finally coming to your hands and home this year. The Dyson Supersonic r was first unveiled last year during the FW24 fashion week season, available only to professional hairstylists and settings, such as the tools debut environment of New York and Paris Fashion Week.
A year later for the same occasion at Paris Fashion Week on March 5, Dyson officially announced the general sale of the Supersonic r, along with a launch event in its Rue de la Boetie boutique that allowed guests to try their hand at the revolutionary hair dryer.
The Supersonic r is Dyson’s lightest, smallest, and most precise styling tool, powered by the Dyson Hyperdymium motor, featuring a new technology streamlined heater and RFID-enabled sensors in each styling attachment that communicates with the device to automatically adjust optimal airflow and temperature.

The Supersonic r was released as a professional tool at first because it was designed for them, following a comprehensive survey into the work environment and habits of professional hairstylists. Strain related injuries were highly prevalent, leading to a new ergonomic design and format of the ‘r’ curve, where the device gets its name.
The hair dryer is also 30% smaller, 20% lighter (only 325 grams!) and easier to manoeuvre during styling sessions compared to the original Supersonic range of hair dryers. This gives the Supersonic r more agility and adaptability to your styling needs.
The revolutionary part of it lies in the new proprietary heater technology that allows the Supersonic r to deliver robust power despite its small size. The curved form allows the air to be heated evenly and efficiently, while preventing heat damage to your hair. Plus, it also sports the intelligent heat control system that Dyson’s products are known for.

Another new feature comes in the form of RFID sensor-equipped attachments, which allows the device to automatically adjust airflow and temperature based on the current attachment detected. For example, attaching the diffuser will automatically set the hair dryer to low flow and temperature to reduce frizz and enhance curl.
Following the announcement of general sale, the Dyson Supersonic r launched for sale first in the US and Mexico from 6 March, and will be available across Europe from April. No exact date yet on when it’ll hit our shores here in Malaysia, but we can expect to see it soon. The Dyson Supersonic r launches for public sale with two new colours: Ceramic Pink and Jasper Plum, the latter of which will be exclusive to Dyson stores and the official site.
