The 2024 TikTok Awards, themed Celebrating New Dreams, shines the spotlight on local creators and their content, including e-commerce creators from TikTok Shop.
The event encompassed 12 categories, split into two main segments: Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice. The Judges’ Choice panel comprised social media influencer and entrepreneur Khairul Aming, Angga Anugrah Putra, general manager of TikTok Content Operations for Southeast Asia, and Nini Yusof, CEO of Media Prima TV Networks and Primeworks Studios.
Meanwhile, for the People’s Choice categories, fans were invited to vote for their favourite content creators within the set time frame of July 25 to August 9 this year. On the other hand, the general public could vote for five categories: Creator of the Year, Celebrity of the Year, Video of the Year, TikTok Live Creator of the Year, and TikTok Shop Creator of the Year.
Without further ado, here are the winners of the 2024 TikTok Awards.
Creator of the Year: Che Sayang
With close to two million followers on the social media platform, 28-year-old data engineer Abdul Qayyum Halid, captures his audience with quick and easy recipes.
Celebrity of the Year: Bella Astillah
Local celebrity Dayang Ara Nabella Awang Astillah, better known as Bella, was voted in by her fans.
Video of the Year: Agy
Actor and singer Agy’s enthralling video of him doing the Alamak Raya Lagi trend was viewed over 30 million times.
TikTok Live Creator of the Year: Acap S
Acap S is the king of TikTok Live content.
TikTok Shop Creator of the Year: Pinn Yang
Apart from being a content creator, Pinn Yang is also the CEO Good Foodie Media.
Entertainment Creator of the Year: Kanafly
Kanafly has over 800,000 followers on TikTok.
Animation Creator of the Year: Yimo the Tapir
RX Animation is behind the adorable tapir character on TikTok.
Gaming Creator of the Year: Muhammad Shafiq
Muhammad Shafiq has around 700,000 followers on the social media platform.
Education Creator of the Year: Amin & Abid
This local duo have taken TikTok by storm with their educational content.
Food Creator of the Year: Tang Guo
Known as the Kampung Girl on the platform, she promotes traditional Malaysian food.
Sports Creator of the Year: Amar & Anas
Amar and Anas content typically focuses on football.
Beauty & Fashion Creator of the Year: Aishah Rahim
Aishah, who’s known for her makeup tutorials, also walked away with RM10,000.
Changemaker(s) of the Year: Lo Kono Poho and Brader Wheelchair
It wasn’t just likes and engagement being celebrated at the 2024 TikTok Awards. The ceremony also awarded a couple of creators with the Changemaker of the Year Award. Both LoKohoPunoh (LKP) and BraderWheelchair have impacted positive change through their platform.
LKP, a group of dedicated environmentalists from Terengganu, has turned TikTok into a powerful tool for beach clean-ups and environmental activism, evolving from a local effort to a nationwide movement that engages Malaysians in preserving their environment. Founder Uzair Emir, balancing medical studies with NGO management, invested in videography skills and equipment to document their clean-ups, using TikTok’s broad reach to amplify their impact.
Meanwhile, BraderWheelchair, known as Nur Izhar Idham, leverages TikTok to inspire and educate about life as a wheelchair user, breaking stereotypes and promoting independence. Both have shown TikTok’s potential to drive meaningful change and build supportive communities, as evidenced by their success at the 2024 TikTok Awards Malaysia.
