The Ferrari 296 GTB has officially landed in Malaysia, and it is set to redefine the concept of fun behind the wheel.
Launched by Naza Italia, Official Importer and Distributor of the Ferrari brand in Malaysia, the latest evolution of Maranello’s mid-rear-engined two-seater berlinetta promises to take excitement on the road to thrilling new heights.
As the marque’s first rear-wheel drive hybrid mid-engined V6, the Ferrari 296 GTB marks the start of its new era in electric technology. For the first time, a 6-cylinder engine has been installed in a road car sporting the Prancing Horse badge. The 663 cv 120° V6 engine, combined with an electric motor capable of delivering a further 122 kW, releases a massive 830 cv total power output for astounding performance as well as an exhilarating sound experience.
Compact yet powerful
Characterised by impeccably clean, simple architecture, the Ferrari 296 GTB’s design stems from a desire to modernise and reimagine the identity of the mid-rear-engined two-seater berlinetta. With a short wheelbase and a monolithic, sculpted structure, it is the most compact berlinetta to come out of Maranello within the last decade.
Along with the visor-style windscreen that wraps around onto the side windows, elements like the muscular wings, the visor-style windscreen, the robust flying buttresses and vertical rear screen come together to compose a striking cabin silhouette.
A distinctive aerodynamic element at the front of the Ferrari 296 GTB is the ‘tea-tray’, which works with the rear surface of the bumper to create a field of overpressure that counteracts the depression field of the underbody.
At the rear, the ultramodern tail dominated by an imposing flying buttress features an engine bay cover with a unique, three-dimensional glass surface. The body-coloured element of the central section is a nod to a Maranello styling theme that traces back to iconic creations like the Ferrari Testarossa and F355 GTB.
Mirroring the powerful elegance of the exterior, the Ferrari 296 GTB’s cockpit was designed to evoke a pure minimalism, draping its entirely digital interface in a sophisticated aesthetic. The main instrument cluster is set into a deep cleft in the dashboard trim, from which the steering wheel and instrument panel also emerge. Applying the Ferrari’s philosophy of maximum formal purity, the cockpit also features a HUD (Head Up Display) that is incorporated into the leather trim.
The Ferrari 296 is also available with the extreme high-performance Assetto Fiorano package, designed for clients seeking to push the furthest limits of the car’s extreme abilities. Significant weight reduction and aerodynamic features include special GT racing-derived adjustable Multimatic shock absorbers that are optimised for the track, high downforce carbon-fibre appendages on the front bumper for an additional 10 kg of downforce, and more extensive use of lightweight materials like carbon-fibre for the cabin and exterior.
The Ferrari 296 GTB is available from the base price of RM 1,228,000, excluding duties, customisation options, taxes and insurance. For more information, get in touch with the Ferrari Malaysia Showroom.
