Salvatore Ferragamo is off to a fruitful new year, having just won the Best Men’s Fashion Collection Autumn/Winter 2018 category at the Wallpaper* Design Awards 2019.
Designed by the brand’s Men’s Design Director Guillaume Meilland, the collection emerged a winner for its “kaleidoscopic palette, which updated classic silhouettes in rich and unusual hues”, beating finalists Comme des Garçons, Lanvin, Maison Margiela and Prada.
The collection is Meilland’s third for the house, presented together with Paul Andrew’s debut as Women’s Creative Director last year. It was the first co-ed runway show for the brand, marking a new chapter in its history. Both designers will continue working together to advance a new vision where men and women share the same creative dialogue; a hymn to modernity that embraces the precious past.
Inspired by the Florentine house’s archives, the collection features formalwear and modern utilitarian pieces reimagined in colour-blocked codes. There are buttery leather overcoats and tailored boxy jackets, as well as a range of striped sweaters and layered knitwear.
The panel of judges for the awards consisted of MoMA’s curator of the Department of Architecture and Design Paola Antonelli; singer and style icon Neneh Cherry; Danish architect Bjarke Ingels; set designer David Korins; the “Wallpaper Designer of the Year 2018” Philippe Malouin; and Korean sculptor and artist Do Ho Suh.
