It seems 2025 has been quite the year for fashion enthusiasts, with debut runway collections from newly-appointed creative directors to fashion advertisements that went viral (for both good and controversial reasons) to high-profile celebrity engagements (spoiler alert: we’re talking about Taylor Swift). Ahead, we take a look back at some of the most iconic fashion moments that deserve a place in 2025’s fashion history book.
1. Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show

All eyes were on Kendrick Lamar last February for his highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime show. Not only did he snarkily diss Drake with his diabolical Not Like Us performance on the nation’s largest stage, but he also infused it with political statements. Other guest appearances for his show include Samuel L. Jackson, Serena Williams, and SZA. Kendrick wore a custom leather Martine Rose varsity jacket that read “Gloria”, a personification of rap glory and the representation of Lamar’s artistic journey, which he accessoried with a custom diamond-covered lowercase ‘a’ necklace. People speculated it to be a reference to the “A minor” diss line. On the other hand, the rest of his outfit, such as the Nike Air DT Max ‘96 and the women’s Celine bootcut jeans, saw a spike in sales after the show.
2. Rihanna’s pregnancy reveal at the Met Gala

With the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, this year’s Met Gala paid homage to the history and impact of Black dandyism. Rihanna, fashionably late as she always is, took the opportunity on fashion’s biggest night to reveal her baby bump in a full custom Marc Jacobs dress, confirming the power couple’s third pregnancy.
3. The Devil Wears Prada 2 announcement

The announcement of The Devil Wears Prada 2 in July sparked a worldwide sensation and prompted countless clicks over the movie’s tiniest details. And no, no, that wasn’t a question. It seems like we have lived a thousand lives ever since the sequel was first announced – like behind-the-scenes of filming, a jillion spoilers, and even the appearance of Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci, who play Miranda Priestly and Nigel respectively, crashing the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2026 show for The Devil Wears Prada 2 shoot in Milan last September. To make it even more iconic, Streep was then photographed with Vogue’s former editor-in-chief Anna Wintour after the show, which created an interesting cross between fiction and reality – Priestly is famously rumoured to be based on Wintour. So much has happened, and thankfully, the hype does not seem to be dying down anytime soon.
4. Jenna Ortega at the Wednesday Season 2 premiere

On 30th July, Jenna Ortega took the world by surprise at the premiere of Wednesday Season 2 in London. We knew her Wednesday looks would show a series of gothic outfits, but what we did not know was the debut of her bleached brows, which she paired with a dress resembling a snakeskin shedding from Ashi Studio’s Fall/Winter 2025 couture collection. It reflected an enigmatic aura that she so gracefully carried along the way, generating millions of likes on Instagram in just a day.
5. KATSEYE advertisement for GAP Jeans

What was supposed to be a 90-second jeans advertisement evolved into a global pop culture phenomenon. Last August, KATSEYE starred in Gap’s “Better in Denim” campaign, where each of the group members was dressed head‑to‑toe in updated Gap denim. With reimagined low‑rise and Long & Lean jeans, along with denim skirts, bralettes, and layered looks, the collection merged the Y2K nostalgia with a touch of modernity. Visuals involving choreography, camera work, and the stunning members dancing to Kelis’s Milkshake made it one of the most viral advertisements in fashion.
6. Taylor Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce

The summer ended with Taylor Swift announcing her engagement to NFL player Travis Kelce via Instagram, which swiftly became the most liked post in the history of the platform. The Ralph Lauren dress she was wearing in the pictures was sold out within days, while jewellers and bridal experts alike weighed in on the unique engagement ring. If the engagement post alone had this effect, we could only imagine what the wedding photos would do for next year.
7. The comeback of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Through all the pink carpet nostalgia and the glamorous 2000s essence, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show’s return on 15th October 2025 hit the sweet spot for many. The returning fan-favourite Victoria’s Secret Angels, like Gigi Hadid and Adriana Lima, graced the runway alongside new Angels, such as Alex Consani and Barbie Ferreira, each paired with their own set of dreamy wings and loungewear.
8. Paris Fashion Week debut shows

Need we say more? After the constant shuffle of creative directors within fashion brands – like Jonathan Anderson from Loewe to Dior, Pierpaolo Piccioli from Valentino to Balenciaga, and Alessandro Michele from Gucci to Valentino – the debut shows during Paris Fashion Week were nothing short of extraordinary. It even created the term “fashion’s creative director musical chairs”. Each designer thoughtfully paid homage to their respective maison’s archival codes, simultaneously setting the tone of its future.
9. Wicked: For Good premieres

Another movie premiere that generously delivered to fans of fashion was Wicked: For Good, with the cast wearing couture pieces and stylist Law Roach diving deep into the archives of beloved maisons. One of them was Ariana Grande, who wore a vintage black ballgown by Gilbert Adrian, which dates as far back as 1952. Meanwhile, Michelle Yeoh donned a dramatic geometrical Iris Van Herpen gown, Cynthia Erivo opted for a see-through custom lace Givenchy dress, and Jonathan Bailey suited up in sleek Loro Piana.
10. First Indian model to open a Chanel runway

Chanel’s new creative director Matthieu Blazy brought his vision to a New York City subway platform for his first Métiers d’Art show. The collection showcased all the signature accents of a Chanel collection, such as classic tweed sets and sequinned gowns. However, what moved the online chatter the most was when Bhavita Mandava became the first Indian model in history to open for a Chanel fashion show.
