Back in July, Céline cancelled its menswear Summer 24 show that’s set to take place at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris due to ongoing riots. For the disappointed Céline fans, today is your day, as the French house recently put on “the show that never was” to showcase its latest menswear Summer collection. Shot across Paris and Monaco alongside a performance from ballet dancer Laudris Seidel, in the midst of Hedi Slimane’s collection, Delusional Daydream made its long-awaited debut.
The latest collection is exactly what Slimane daydreams of – think proto-punk uniforms, classy meets grungy in a dingy club and a modern coolness that pays tribute to the budding New York City art and music scenes in the early 2000s. Recalling his strong connections to the art scene, Slimane collaborated with an emerging artist like Dash Snow in selecting his artwork from his archive for the collection. Additionally, Slimane is spearheading the indie revival, uncovering the next generation of artists, musicians and clubbers.
Set against a set filled with gold mirrored panels, the androgynous models walk to the sounds of LCD Soundsystem’s 2005 self-titled debut album wearing bows and couture bustiers that draw inspiration from the 17th century royal portraits and plunged lambskin jeans to add a bit of ‘70s flair with flared hemlines. There are also plenty of leather, low-rise trousers and skin-baring tops that offer a flash of shoulder or waistline.
On foot, the French house’s storied five-inch heeled boots arrived in iterations of snake print and glistening rhinestones accompanied by a series of newly-introduced accessories including the Malaquais Cabas tote bag and Romy Bag in a signature Triomphe canvas colourway.
