Luxe beauty brand Guerlain has always been at the forefront of innovation and sustainable practices through its philosophy of a nature-inspired approach. Recently, the first-ever Guerlain Facialist Suite opened its doors alongside the opening of the first Guerlain boutique in The Exchange TRX. In a little room tucked behind the dazzling gold-and-white displays of flacons holding the maison’s most treasured formulas, a cosy treatment cabin lies in wait to whisk you away from the hustle and bustle waiting right outside.

The 60-minute facial treatment features signature massage techniques used in Guerlain spas worldwide, promising to boost circulation, sculpt the face, and restore glow to your skin. Recently I got the chance to experience the hour-long treatment for myself to truly understand the process.

Before we even step into the suite, the experience starts with a thorough skin consultation. My therapist handed me a handy little card where I could pick my skin type and major skin concerns, before asking several questions about the kinds of products I generally use in my skincare routine. The therapist was also skilled enough to essentially be able to confirm and diagnose skin issues by look and feel. For me, as someone with oily, blemish-prone skin, she was also able to tell that dehydration was an issue I possibly overlooked too (a diagnosis which she then confirmed during the treatment itself before proceeding).

Based on the consultation, you’ll be recommended one of two Guerlain iconic skincare ranges: Orchidée Impériale or Abeille Royale. In my case, I was prescribed Abeille Royale, with its high concentration of honey and royal jelly that helps to heal, hydrate, and repair skin while leaving the skin glowing without any heaviness.

Once inside the Facialist Suite and dressed appropriately, the therapist tucks you in snugly under the blankets to get started. Step one of any good skincare routine commences: double cleansing, first using the Abeille Royale Cleansing Oil followed by the Cleansing Care-In-Mousse cleanser.

From here, the treatment officially started with an application of a facial-exclusive peeling gel for a gentle exfoliation step. Then we moved straight into skin prep featuring the Fortifying Lotion, the Youth Watery Oil Serum (which is one of my faves from range!), and the Double R Advanced Serum. To move into the main portion of the Guerlain facial sculpting, the therapist applied a generous layer of the Intense Repair Youth Oil-in-Balm, providing the right texture and formulation that makes for a perfect base for the massage.

Aiming to improve circulation to facial skin and muscles, ample pressure and upwards motions were used, especially on my cheeks, chin and forehead, alongside stimulating the pressure points around my brow. I could feel the muscles in my face tighten and come to life throughout the massage. Once that was done, the skin was allowed to relax with the Abeille Royale Honey Cataplasm Mask to finish.

While the sheet mask was working its magic for 15 minutes, the treatment continued with a hand, neck, and shoulder massage, extending the rejuvenation to more parts of the body. Then, a short eye massage with an application of the Abeille Royale Eye Cream, before finishing the skincare routine with the Clarify & Repair Crème and the Protective Fluid Youthful Radiance for UV protection.

And the results after just 60 minutes of pampering were instantly noticeable, and sculpted is truly the best word to describe it – my face appeared smaller, and all that honey goodness had penetrated the skin to leave a healthy, hydrated glow. I had expected these results to a certain extent, but what took me by surprise was that my dark circles were visibly brightened – and when I looked in the mirror a few hours later they were basically erased.

Over a cup of tea after the treatment, your therapist will walk you through all the products used and its effects, as well as leave you with advice to make the most of the boosted circulation to your face over the next three days.

For a treatment that was only one hour long, it was truly reviving – making it the perfect quick escape when you need it. It’s also a great choice as a pre-event treatment, done several hours before so the effects of the massage fully sinks in and leaves you looking your best by the time your event rolls around.
