The first Monday in May has come and gone, leaving behind a trail of head-turning looks from the 2025 Met Gala. This year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, celebrated Black dandyism and expressive grooming, inspiring a red carpet filled with bold, culturally resonant beauty looks.
From the historic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, some of the world’s biggest A-listers showcased a range of hairstyles and makeup that paid homage to iconic Black figures and eras. It may have been fashion’s biggest night, but these celebrities did not fail to bring their beauty game.
Josephine Baker-inspired kiss curls were the hair trend of the evening, as Dua Lipa, Simone Biles, Bad Bunny, and Sydney Sweeney prove. There were also sculptural hairdos crowning Ego Nwodim and Regina King, as well as ponytails from Lorde and Kerry Washington. On the makeup front, Lupita Nyong’o dazzled with bejeweled brows, while Doechii made a powerful statement with her designer cheek stamp.
Without further ado, here are the best beauty looks at the 2025 Met Gala.
Megan Thee Stallion
Rapper Megan Thee Stallion came in red hot with a dramatic sky-high ponytail inspired by none other than Josephine Baker. Celebrity stylist Kellon Deryck created the look using a Tangle Teezer, finishing it off with a trail of hair gems.
Doechii
Denial is a river and Doechii is a stunner. The artist turned heads at the Met Gala with her circular ‘fro and monochromatic makeup look with a not-so-subtle Louis Vuitton monogram cheek accent.
Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o kept her makeup simple with glass skin and smouldering eyes, letting her bedazzled brows shine.
Ego Nwodim
Actress and comedian Ego Nwodim had arguably one of the most memorable sculptural hairdos at the Met Gala, crafted by hairstylist Miles Jeffries.
Doja Cat
While many kept their makeup looks minimal, Doja Cat brought ‘80s glamour to the blue carpet with purple eyeshadow paired with a satin red lip.
Chappell Roan
Trust Chappell Roan to show up in a ‘fit looking like she came straight from Pink Pony Club – complete with her signature drag-style makeup courtesy of Pat McGrath.
A$AP Rocky
MET Gala co-chair and soon-to-be father of three A$AP Rocky made a case for the gentlemen with his killer finger-waved cornrows.
Kerry Washington
Kerry Washington served up dandy in a white, wide-brim hat matching her full white look, paired with a long bubble ponytail.
Lisa
Blackpink’s Lisa is no stranger to the red carpet, and this time she’s giving dandy with a voluminous updo, sleek glass skin, perfectly winged eyeliner, and rosy cheeks and lips.
Shaboozey
Shaboozey paired his turquoise-beaded suit with matching grillz (or is it the other way round?) and we’re here for it!
Simone Biles
We don’t know about you, but Olympic gymnast Simone Biles wins gold in our hearts with her adorable S curls, sharp brows, and pearly white smile.
Sha’Carri Richardson
Track and field star Sha’Carri Richardson is giving hair for days with long wavy locks adorned with white ribbons and yellow bows, paired with her signature flashy fingernails.
Venus Williams
Venus Williams brought tenniscore to the red carpet with her Lacoste look, paired with bedazzled silver braids and a dark berry lip colour.
