This year, the app is teeming with a plethora of captivating beauty trends that span across various categories, raging from food-inspired beauty products such as latte makeup, strawberry makeup, and doughnut glazed aesthetics to nostalgic allure of retro vibes like skinny brows, tooth gems and chic indie waves—everything makes a triumphant return.

Barbiecore 

The colour pink has become an absolute sensation! Inspired by the highly anticipated movie of the year, Barbie, the fashion and beauty industries have embraced this feminine hue wholeheartedly. From limited-edition beauty collections released by renowned brands to beauty influencers crafting countless Barbie-inspired looks, Magenta, the colour of the year, has undeniably taken centre stage, reigning supreme in all its glory.

Latte Makeup

Though we’re quite unsure on who actually started this trend, it has gained immense popularity on TikTok and we’re thankful for it. This makeup trend is inspired by our love for caffeine and has become the go-to look for many fashion-forward women this year. The key to achieving this look is to keep the skin looking natural with a light tint, a touch of concealer, a nude lip, and lots of bronzer. 

Skinny Brow

Labelled as one of the “lamest” beauty trends just a few years ago, they are now headlining fashion ads and impacting TikTok trends. For the past few months, we have seen Ariana Grande, Bella Hadid, and Doja Cat‘s strong fondness for thin brows, with each either plucking their brows into a skinnier form or shaving their brows off entirely and putting fresh multicoloured patterns on.

Tooth Gem

Consider it like having braces, but in the most stylish way. ‘Tooth Gems’ or tooth ornaments have received a warm welcome from Gen Z on TikTok, who want to add a bit of a sass to their style. 

Backwards Makeup

For this, it wasn’t exactly a new trend. But the beauty industry has seen a resurgence of an old makeup technique, thanks to the influence of Kendall Jenner. To summarise, instead of applying foundation first, you apply reverse makeup. Contour first, then apply blusher, concealer, translucent powder, and finish with a thin foundation. 

Indie Sleaz Waves

Think of the ‘just gotten out of bed’ hair look that was once adorned by the likes Mary-Kate and Ashely Olsen. Over on TikTok, the beauty junkie is ditching the high-effort blowouts and glossy hair in favour of indie sleazy waves. You only need a brush, a curling wand, and some hair spray. 

Strawberry Makeup 

Beauty maven Hailey Bieber invented the ‘Strawberry Makeup’ beauty trend. And the look has skyrocketed all over TikTok. The goal here is to brighten your skin with the cleanest, freshest, and most innocent appearance imaginable. Lots of blushers and false freckles to top it off. 

Bangs, Bangs, Bangs

When Kim Kardashian posts the Kill Bill-inspired shot, we know bangs are going to lash out loud. However, for this year’s beauty trend, the beauty junkies refer to them as ‘curve bangs’ rather than ‘bangs’. A blend of the curve cut while yet retaining the popular it-girl bang appearance.
