Explore its understated design, refined interior, and respectable performance in the same time the latest Range Rover Velar takes to complete a century sprint.
Malaysia, say hello to the latest luxury SUV in the country worth a second look at – Range Rover Velar.
Positioned in between the Evoque and Sport, the latest Range Rover is all about tech-enhanced simplicity and all-terrain performance. It’s glamour, modernity, and elegance all in one shiny package – but rather than having adjectives thrown at you, we assume you’d like to see for yourself.
Aluminium-intensive monocoque underscores the Jaguar Land Rover Lightweight Aluminium Architecture design, with the metal accounting for over 81% of the body-in-white. Mind you, that’s a record still waiting to be beaten.
This makes for a light, stuff body, working positively with the double-wishbone front and Integral Link rear suspension for agile handling in a super comfy ride. Don’t mistake its lightness for vulnerability, though – Range Rover Velar is a safe haven with exceptional levels of crash protection.
Safety is given its due attention in the Vealar, boasting six airbags and driver assistance systems: Head Up Display, 3D Navigation Pro System, Cruise Control Speed Limiter.
Infotainment-vise, the elusive Touch Pro Duo system is really the centre-piece of this SUV’s understated interior. Its integrated 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display comes with four visual themes. Having explored the model during its launch, we have to say the spacious, uncluttered interior was a welcome change from the button-heavy dashboards we see in major luxury brands.
An example of the Velar’s refined interior is the perforated grain leather interior (with touches of suede in the R-Dynamic model), exchangeable with the durable Kvadrat wool and suede option.
Naturally, you’d need a powerful heart to get the best of that body. Range Rover’s Ingenium P250 engine (Top 10 in the world!) is matched to a smooth ZF eight-speed auto transmission, for a peak power of 260 PS, max torque of 365 Nm. It goes 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds (some relation to the title of this article).
Thanks to that powertrain, the Velar is a star both on and off road. On top of that, incredibly responsive all-wheel-drive system with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics ensures torque is distributed to match the condition of every road.
Imposing 20-inch (P250) or 21-inch (R-Dynamic) wheels with customisable spoke design completes the package. This is a Range Rover made with performance in mind, without compromising the bold-yet-sleek aesthetic so synonymous to the marquee.
