The timepiece is being hailed for its incredibly complicated motions. With Jacob & Co.’s twin triple-axis back-to-back flying tourbillon and two exquisitely made dragons in constant motion, the effect is nothing short of captivating.
The tiny sculptures of dragons, created by hand using rose gold and lacquer, are suspended amidst stylized clouds. Two huge Jacob-cut spherical diamonds with 288 facets—smaller than a golf ball—represent the Pearl of Wisdom, which the dragons are shown as being in constant quest for. The larger dragon on the outer chases the faceted diamond, which stands for the minutes, while the smaller dragon coiling around the tourbillon pursues the hours, which are symbolized by a spherical diamond, at a slower pace. Twelve baguette-cut diamonds on the bezel serve as the hours’ indicators.
The incredible horological complication created by Jacob & Co. adds to the spectacle of two dragons dancing around the dial at various speeds. The tourbillons are mounted back-to-back, a feature the brand says is unique to the world, in contrast to the Twin Turbo, which is installed independently.
Jacob & Co. has chosen a 50mm 18k rose gold case that measures 25mm in height to fit the complication. 192 hexagon-cut diamonds are subtly fitted into the case’s flanks and lugs. With 430 components, a frequency of 21,600 volts per hour, and a 60-hour power reserve, the hand-wound JCAM32 movement uses a lot of power, as evidenced by the dial’s animation.
An 18k rose gold folding buckle and a red alligator strap are included with the unique Mystery Tourbillon Twin Dragons watch.
