Aviation has long been perceived as a male-dominated field, but female pilots like Vivian Foo are proving that the skies are open to everyone. Since joining the industry in 2017, Vivian has carved out a rewarding career in the cockpit, navigating not just aircraft but also the evolving perceptions of women in aviation.
You may have seen her videos while scrolling through Instagram – whether it’s breathtaking views from the cockpit or behind-the-scenes glimpses of a pilot’s life. Beyond flying, Vivian is also a content creator with a following of more than 61 thousand (as of the time of writing), using her platform to share her experiences and inspire others to pursue their dreams in aviation.

Her journey, however, wasn’t without challenges. Like many women entering male-dominated fields, she had to prove her capabilities in an industry that has long been perceived as a man’s world. “I had to show that I was worthy of the job and could perform just as well as anyone else,” Vivian says.
Through hard work and determination, she carved out her place in the cockpit, becoming part of the growing wave of women reshaping aviation. “The industry is evolving at a fast pace,” she shares. “Women are now accepted more, and it has become a norm to see more female pilots.”
Flying through challenges and triumphs
A pilot’s life is far from routine. With early mornings, late nights, and unpredictable schedules, each day presents new challenges. “Depending on the start of duty, my day could begin at midnight or early morning,” Vivian explains. “It generally involves a lot of packing and preparation before heading to the office.”
Despite the demanding nature of the job, Vivian finds deep fulfilment in flying. “The most rewarding part of being a pilot is the sense of freedom it offers. There’s something unmatched about soaring above the clouds, seeing the world from a vantage point few get to experience, and knowing you’re in command of that journey.”

She also thrives on the constant change that aviation brings. “No two flights are ever quite the same – different routes, changing conditions, new passengers or cargo. That unpredictability keeps it fresh.”
Beyond the thrill of flight, there are also deeply personal moments that make the job unforgettable. “Flights where I’m lucky enough to have my loved ones on board will always have a special place in my heart,” she says, reflecting on the unique experiences her career has afforded her. These moments, along with the daily challenges and triumphs, keep her passion for aviation alive.
Sharing the skies through a pilot’s eyes
Beyond piloting, Vivian has built a strong digital presence, using social media to share her experiences and connect with others. Blending her passion for flying with a love for storytelling, she offers a unique glimpse into the life of a pilot.
“I have always loved creating content and expressing myself through social media. It was convenient to then also share bits and parts of my job through it too,” Vivian shares.

Juggling between a demanding career as a pilot with her personal life and content creation is no easy feat, but Vivian has mastered the art of balance. “To me, it’s all about how you manage your time. Balance is key, and I’ve learned to allocate time for my passions while still making room for myself.”
For Vivian, content creation is more than just sharing her experiences – it’s about spreading positivity. “That’s the main underlying theme for all the content that I put out. Be it with my work, travel, or personal life, I focus on sharing positive and happy messages.” Whether she’s posting breathtaking cockpit views, travel adventures, or insights into life as a pilot, her goal is to create content that uplifts and inspires.
Among her most popular posts, her travel content consistently garners the most attention. “I think it resonates with my followers because I share a lot of tips and tricks on how to travel on a budget and how to enjoy all the little bumps along the way.”
By combining practical advice with an optimistic outlook, she has built a community that engages with her content not just for entertainment but also for inspiration.
Inspiring the next generation
For young girls dreaming of a career in a male-dominated field but feeling discouraged by gender norms, Vivian has one key piece of advice: let your passion lead the way.
“If you love planes, cars, health, sports – read about it, watch videos, get involved. Passion builds confidence, and confidence makes it harder for norms to shake you.”
As aviation continues to evolve, Vivian believes companies and organisations have a role to play in fostering diversity. “Spotlighting female pilots during Women’s Day or similar campaigns can make a huge impact,” she says, emphasising the need for more platforms that celebrate women in aviation.

She also understands the power of representation and why it matters. “Visibility is important. Showcasing women who are already killing it – whether they’re leading industries, innovating, or breaking barriers – can inspire others.”
Through her social media, Vivian shares her journey, proving to young girls that they, too, can pursue their dreams and forge their own paths, regardless of societal norms.
For Vivian, the sky is not the limit; it’s just the beginning. Whether she’s piloting an aircraft, creating content, or sharing her journey, she’s proving that her own future – and the future of girls in male-dominated industries – holds no limits, just endless possibilities.
