Designed for people “desiring freshness and unconventionality”, the Galaxy Flip folds down into a tiny square and features a glass screen which somehow also folds, so it’s small enough to fit into even the most miniscule of micro bags. The phone, which winks at the flip phones of the early 2000s, features a glass design on the back that showcases the inner details of a Maison Margiela jacket with silver and metallic effects.
The packaging is a work of art in itself, reflecting Maison Margiela’s special edition design, with a distinct stitching pattern and a paper-based woven book cloth fabric that resembles the archival sample storage used in ateliers. Under the watchful eye of the Maison’s creative director John Galliano, the new phone feels like an extension of Margiela’s recent ‘digital nomads’ collection that sees models wearing phones and iPads strapped to their wrists and ankles, and having screens built into the clothes.
The price and availability of the collaboration have yet to be announced, however, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition will be available in select markets including China, Hong Kong and Korea starting November 30.
