For watch afficionados, a gala ceremony like the Oscars is a perfect place to show off a rare piece, especially since you’ll want to be dressed up to the nines. And the recently passed 97th Academy Awards proved just that, with many stunning timepieces being spotted on the wrists of Hollywood’s biggest names, from presenters and nominees to the eventual winners of the night too.
From the many watches that peeked out from under suit cuffs or glinted on jewellery-adorned wrists, this edition of Watch Out highlights just some of the interesting pieces we spotted throughout the night.
Andrew Garfield – Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar
Looking dapper in an all-brown Gucci suit, complete with brown shades too, Andrew Garfield chose to match his watch to the theme, going with the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Duoface Calender in pink gold with brown calfskin leather strap to finish. Garfield went with the front face of this manual winding watch, choosing to contrast his monochromatic look with the bright, vintage dial inspired by the aesthetic codes of JLC’s 1931 Art Deco collection.
Cole Walliser – H. Moser & Cie Streamliner Tourbillon
For a creative like Cole Walliser, who is a filmmaker, music video director, and most notably the mastermind behind the GLAMbot that has become a staple for red carpets, it’s no surprise that he went for a Moser watch. Reflecting his unique spirit and style, the Streamliner Tourbillon boasts a red gold case and strap with enchanting Vantablack dial of pure black that is broken only by the tourbillon and red gold hands and markers.
Colman Domingo – Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 18K Canopus Gold
Ever the style icon on every red carpet, Colman Domingo didn’t disappoint this time either, pairing his bright red Valentino suit with an icy Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 18K Canopus Gold. As Omega’s friend of the brand, it’s not surprise that this choice is also a limited edition one, featuring baguette-cut diamonds on the bezel and only available on request. We also love how the bright Canopus Gold case and bracelet contrasted against his gold jewellery, making the watch stand out beautifully.
Jeff Goldblum – Vacheron Constantin Égérie Moon Phase Limited Edition
For Jeff Goldblum, making a style statement isn’t something new, and at the Oscars this time, his choice of a 37MM ladies watch from Vacheron Constantin didn’t go unnoticed. Rocking the limited edition Égérie Moon Phase, which was created in collaboration with designer Yin Yiqing, with a lilac dial and pink gold hands and markers, Goldblum swapped the lilac strap for a classic black leather, matching the black and purple accents on his suit.
Kieran Culkin – Omega De Ville Trésor in 18K Sedna Gold
Before Kieran Culkin walked home with his new Oscars statuette, he already drew our applause on the red carpet with his watch choice: the Omega De Ville Trésor in 18K Sedna Gold. An elegant timepiece known for its thin case and clean appearance, this Trésor boasts a red dial and burgundy strap, offering an understated pop of colour against Culkin’s all-black suit. And we think the Sedna Gold case really plays nicely with the gold of the Oscars statuette in his hand.
Kit Connor – Tag Heuer Monaco Chronograph
The Heartstopper star made our hearts stop for a different reason on the Oscars red carpet, namely his choice of the eye-catching Monaco Chronograph on his wrist. A watch steeped in history for Tag Heuer, motorsports, and film, the timepiece certainly caught our eyes during the pre-show festivities. Paired with a wide-lapelled Celine suit in a classic black-and-off-white colour, Connor made a great first style impression for his Oscars red carpet debut.
Michelle Yeoh – Richard Mille RM 07-01 in Diamond Snow Set
As Richard Mille’s first female brand ambassador, Michelle Yeoh is one name you can count on to always be rocking an RM piece on her wrist. This Oscars, she went with the infinitely dazzling RM 07-01 in the snow setting design variant which is covered in diamonds. The icy white timepiece went well with her blue Balenciaga dress and Boucheron statement necklace, creating a cohesive look that definitely stole attention.
Timothée Chalamet – Cartier Baignoire ref. 1960
Timothée Chalamet brought out an interesting archival piece on the Oscars red carpet in the form of a gem-set Cartier Baignoire reference 1960. Featuring a clean dial and stunningly bright yellow gold case and bracelet, Chalamet did not shy away from the colour yellow. His pastel yellow Givenchy suit was the perfect background to allow his choice of watch and jewellery to pop, creating an unforgettable style moment.
