In the 17th century, the French invented the bidet that revolutionised our hygiene habits when going to the toilet. Then came the Washlet, or the Super Toilet, which was released in 1980 by Japanese company Toto – a line of cleansing toilet seats with a water spray feature that would pave the way for more hi-tech, luxurious toilets.
While some countries like Australia and the USA are still fighting over the last roll of toilet paper, we’re fortunate enough to have toilets equipped with bidets in almost every household and public space. But how about taking it up a notch and treating yourself to a luxury smart toilet for the home?
Why invest in a high-end toilet?
Probably the most obvious reason would be to elevate your hygiene standards at home, especially since we’re more particular about our health and sanitary habits ever since the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of these smart toilets don’t even require you to touch the seat to lift or close them, reducing contact with bacteria and germs. Some of these toilets even come built-in with self-cleaning and deodorising functions – which may save you a lot of time in the long run.
Comfort is also a big factor in obtaining a luxury toilet. If the seat incorporates heating mechanisms, you won’t get that unpleasant shock of sitting on a stone-cold toilet seat especially during the wee hours of the night. Bidets that allow you to adjust the pressure and temperature of the water spray are also a welcome feature, so you won’t accidentally harm probably the most sensitive part of your body.
Some high-end toilets even come with a built-in Bluetooth capability and SD card slot that allows you to establish a special bathroom playlist to drown out your bathroom business, or create a surprise welcome greeting to unsuspecting guests.
Now if you’re ever curious about levelling up your toilet, here are a few options to consider:
