David Adjaye partners with Aston Martin to design 5 New York residences

Renowned Ghanaian-British architect Sir David Frank Adjaye OBE has teamed up with Aston Martin to design five residences in the former’s first New York skyscraper, the 130 William. This marks the first collaboration between the two, and follows the recent unveiling of the British car manufacturer’s first private residential estate (befitting a 007 agent), Sylvan Rock.

The new luxury residences will occupy the 59^th and 60^th floors of 244-metre-tall residential tower now under construction in Manhattan. Consisting of two penthouses and three loggias, the five units all boast panoramic views of the metropolitan’s skyline.

And the cherry on the cake? Each unit comes with a limited-edition custom-designed DBX SUV, along with a host of luxuries.

To distinguish these 5 units from their neighbours in the 242-unit tower, they will feature materials, textiles and furniture sourced from the Aston Martin Home Collection by the Italian manufacturer Formitalia. Adjaye himself will see to the finishing touches.

The hallway entrance will be adorned with a bronze cross-hatch – a signature of the Aston Martin brand – which overlays dark, textured wallpaper by Adjaye. A massive arched smoked-glass mirror will hang on the opposite wall, referencing the arched windows of the skyscraper.

Moving inside, aforementioned windows allow ample natural light into the spacious lounge and dining rooms. Leather and metal furnishings as well as fabric chairs that mirror the aesthetic of the automaker’s interiors spruce up the space.

There will be an open-plan kitchen adjoining the living room, which features blackened-oak cabinetry, marble countertops from Italy’s Apuan Alps and a cantilevered Nero Marquina marble top.

The main bedroom will have Formitalia furniture and a custom cashmere headboard. Even the main bathroom is not spared of lavish details – where dark Italian Salvtori will be carved into a bathtub and double vanity sinks.

Residents have the option of turning one of the rooms in the two- or three-bedroom homes into a racing simulator, an office and library space or a bedroom. In the first case, the racing simulator will be designed in partnership with British technology company Curv Racing Simulators.

In addition to sizeable outdoor areas, the units also come with access to the building’s infinity-edge swimming pool, fitness center and spa, yoga studio and basketball court, golf simulator, pet spa and an IMAX movie theater.

“The 130 William Aston Martin homes have been touched in a very particular way that merges our design sensibilities,” Adjaye reveals. “Together with the limited edition SUVs that come with these units, we’ve created a truly unique signature that blends our two disciplines.”

As the bonus, the Adjaye-designed DBX that accompanies the purchase of each residence will feature rich materials echoing the respective homes – such as marble, walnut wood and hand-stitched leather with green trims.

The Aston Martin X Adjaye penthouses will go for US$11.5 million and US$10.5 million, whilst the loggias retail at US$3.9 million, US$5.9 million and US$10 million.
