Coming from a line of snazzy sports cars is the latest track-only hypercar by Automobili Lamborghini: the Essenza SCV12. Developed by Lamborghini Squadra Corse and designed by Lamborghini Centro Stile, this limited edition hypercar combines a powerful V12 engine with sleek race car aerodynamics to create “the ultimate driving experience”.
“Essenza SCV12 represents the purest track driving experience that our brand can offer, an engineering feat that highlights the inextricable link between our cars and the asphalt of the track,” said Stefano Domenicali, the CEO and Chariman of Automobili Lamborghini. “Lamborghini is a brand constantly looking to the future and searching for new challenges, but we never forget our roots and who we are: Essenza SCV12 is the perfect combination of our unconventional spirit as a super sports car manufacturer and our true passion for motorsport.”
Since the sports car was only created for track use, the Essenza SCV12 is fitted with engineering solutions derived from racing. Its V12 engine is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine ever developed by the carmaker, with the ability to deliver over 830hp, with a sizeable power uplift from the RAM effect at high speeds. Thanks to the new generation carbon fibre monocoque chassis without internal rollcage, the car features a power-to-weight ratio of 1.66 kg/hp. The Essenza SCV12 is also the first GT car developed to respect FIA prototype safety rules.
In order to ensure optimal agility and stability on even the most difficult tracks, the hypercar has adopted kinematic solutions inspired by racing prototypes. This includes the push-rod rear suspension that’s been installed directly on the gearbox. Specific slick Pirelli tyres are fitted with magnesium rims, measuring 19’’ in the front, and 20’’ in the rear, framing the brake discs and calipers developed by Brembo Motorsport.
A sporty hypercar deserves smooth and superior aerodynamics, and the Essenza SCV12 benefits from Lamborghini Squadra Cose’s GT racing experience to ensure a level of efficiency and higher downforce levels than a GT3 car, with a value of 1,200kg at 250 km/h.
From the front, the hood has a double air intake with a central rib, which separates the hot airflow coming from the radiator, and conveys the cold air to the airscoop on the roof. The front features a splitter and two lateral elements; on the sides, optimised engine flows and gearbox cooling is maximised through the use of vertical fin on the side sills. Rounding off the aerodynamics of the sports car is the large adjustable double-profile rear wing.
The Essenza SV12 sports a sleek and dynamic design – a combination of the appeal of 1970s prototypes and elements typical of Lamborghini’s DNA such as the front headlights characterised by hexagonal geometry and the roof airscoop and air vents that frame the steering wheel. The unmistakable ‘Y’ is also repeated on the livery and in the cockpit, while the instrument panel and dashboard are supported by an asymmetrical carbon ‘Y’.
Inspired by F1 single-seater steering wheels, the design of the multifunction steering wheel with display aims to offer the best in feel and ergonomics, with a futuristic and rational design that takes away the need for the driver to remove their hands from the rim. For maximum comfort, safety, and stability, the driver is embraced in the specific FIA homologated OMP seat with carbon shell.
Customers of the limited edition Essenza SCV12 will become part of an exclusive club that will grant them access to special programs that will allow them to take their hypercar to the most presitigious circuits in the world. The program also includes storage service in a new hangar built in Sant’Agata Bolognese. Each car will have a personalised garage and dedicated services, including webcams that allow customers to monitor their cars 24-hours a day via an app. The facility is also home to the “Lamborghini Squadra Corse Drivers Lab” by Technobody to offer athletic training programs similar to those followed by the official Lamborghini racing drivers.
